A Portrait (Part VIII) [no label, 2CD]

Live at various venues and dates. All titles are from various 192kbps (MPEG-Layer 3) webcasts except Track 101 (digital audio recording; Tascam DR-05) and Track 116 (analogue FM broadcast, captured with Tascam DR-05). Excellent audio.

Mozart’s Requiem quickly comes to mind when one talks about music for Holy Week or Triduum listening; and then there’s also Verdi’s Requiem and Handel’s Messiah. Or even Bach’s St Matthew’s Passion. As a composer, living or otherwise, Estonian Arvo Part has certainly left his mark with his funereal-sounding works; and with releases such as Tabula Rasa, Passio and Miserere, there is no finer meditative company than with Arvo Part every Good Friday.

Thanks to Neetelbaers for recording and sharing these tracks at Dime.
