ELTON JOHN
Dee Murray Tribute 1992 [no label, 2CD]

Live at the Grand Ole Opry House, Nashville, TN; March 15, 1992 (Afternoon Show). Very good to excellent soundboard.

Thanks to the person who shared this on the net in 2009.

From eltonjohn.com:

In mid-1991, [bassist] Dee was diagnosed with his second occurrence of malignant melanoma in eight years, and died on January 15, 1992. Exactly two months later, Elton performed two tribute concerts in one day at the Grand Ole Opry to raise money to support Dee’s family. These were attended by Nigel Olsson, Gus Dudgeon, and other long-time friends and fans.

Drummer Nigel Olsson, upon reuniting with Elton in 2004 to record Peachtree Road, reflected upon the absence of his longtime bandmate: “We will never again create anything as wonderful - as inspirational - without Dee’s presence.”

“I’m here tonight to pay tribute to the memory of someone who affected me as a musician and as a person very much. I didn’t realise how much until he was gone… he left a big hole in my life, I’m here tonight to say thanks to him.”

  5. sorry…i didn’t mean that-i’m having a small episode/seizure

  6. I’ve never been a huge Elton fan, just because of the commercialism of it all. But I have always bought his records and he truly is a great singer/songwriter. I love his ballads especially. Thanks a ton for posting this. It’s wonderful. It’s hard to hear him struggle with his voice later in the show. A major talent! Thanks again bigO

WHAT DO YOU DO WITH THE ARTISTS YOU ENJOY?

By space cadet darth on Apr 9, 2013

  8. sorry ’bout that. I know the caps was rude and obnoxious-i missed my appointment w the health professional once again dang it!

  9. This forum has gotten ridiculous. It seems nobody can post a comment without getting slammed. I’d rather read posts by Darth and Ed than whoever this person is with Schizophrenia. I’m sure you will quote part of this and say something stupid also.

By Paul on Apr 9, 2013

  10. they’re idiots quite simply paul. they’re jealous of darth and it was never about the music-such as this is thought of as their playground where they can enjoy life like the eight year olds they are

By matt the cat on Apr 9, 2013

  11. Paul & Matt - I couldn’t agree more. Ed & Darth post informative info that enhance the truly extraordinary experience that BigO shares with us, and it gets ruined by this silly behavior. Lately, I just post a thanks to BigO when they really step up and blow me away, and try to ignore the 257 posts concerning namecalling.

By the way - THANKS BIGO!! Elton is a great songwriter, singer, musician, and performer, and this post is welcome in my collection…

  12. wow. paul matt and tdc.. just wow. i cant thank u guys enough. that means so much to me. cant express it enough.
as far as the separation of where ej is over the top commercialization and kind of a quality songwriter.. i think its easier to appreciate him with regards to unreleased material in the pre 79 or 80 period or any studio outtakes rehearsals or alternates demos etc. if its live material then solo acoustic in a small venue helps my point.
personally with elton i enjoy having at least one sbd or fm/tv derived recording from each tour and any important historically significant shows as well. like this one of course. thats how i am with anyone i love. i feel that way with the stones dylan zep the who pink floyd.. ok with floyd its different cuz im fanatical on them. i collect everything there is as long as its vg quality. there are many many artists that i collect absolutely everything they do thats worth listening to. but with the vast majority of good musicians i like i just go for one or two high end shows per tour and all the studio unreleased material i can get my hands on. elton is one such example. there is no shortage of sbd fm tv recordings of elton from over 40 years worth of his life.
wouldnt it be nice to get all the obscure songs he ever did.. the one off’s the very rarely performed songs etc. and put them all in one place.

  13. Buy all the records but not a huge fan? Let me explain because I think we ALL do this. EJ is a great singer/songwriter and I really enjoy his early music and still listen to him on occasion. Whereas Bob Dylan, I truly obsess over and collect everything and listen to him all the time. So, I don’t think my statement was dumb. Just misunderstood. As I have been my whole life. Poor me.

  14. paul and matt and tdc, I agree 100% about ed saad`s post at least they are true. If i want fiction however, i go to the library.

By dropkick sarge on Apr 9, 2013

  15. @thevandalstookmyhandle, I totally understood what you meant. That was why I commented in the first place, someone took it the way they wanted to. I’m the same way with the Beatles, love all there later stuff but not so much on the earlier stuff. I still had to have them tho

  16. “I’m sure you will quote part of this and say something stupid also.”

youre absolutely right Paul! i quoted part of it and matt the cat said something stupid!

  17. I figured you would barth, it was just a matter of time. How come you didn’t do it with one of your alias names?

By Paul on Apr 10, 2013

  18. paul please. there are many people here critical of darth who dont use multiple aliases. are u aware that darth is the first person on these forums to attack others? i thought not.

By barth on Apr 10, 2013

  19. ive never attacked anyone. ever!!! i dont use alternate names. saying i do these things doesnt make it true. anything i have said to anyone is a response. never ever first. never ever!!!! but everyone here also knows that lying isnt something u are above. u have no qualms about it whatsoever. none at all.

By darth on Apr 11, 2013

  20. ive never attacked anyone. ever!!! i dont use alternate names. saying i do these things doesnt make it true. anything i have said to anyone is a response. never ever first. never ever!!!! but everyone here also knows that lying isnt something u are above. u have no qualms about it whatsoever. none at all.

I don`t know who squeals louder, a three old , a piglet or a darth.

By dropkick sarge on Apr 11, 2013

  21. “ive never attacked anyone. ever!!!”

i suspect this is a fake darth. however, darth became the first person to attack people on bigo right here: http://bigozine2.com/roio/?p=875#comments

    there is no darth.

By barth on Apr 11, 2013

  22. this is a prime example of darth “not” attacking anyone.

..hey ed — can u not make this site your private blog please? thanks.
no one really cares about your relationship with mary (whoever the fuck she is) or what cds u are trading with her or which items on this site u are downloading.

    you forgot ncos

By Bwonk on Apr 12, 2013

  25. i dont think that 9-9-11 is before anyone harassed me. i didnt attack ed. i asked him to tone down what he had doing for quite some time. i had spoken to a number of people who all agreed with me about him and his ramblings about these unknown people. eventually he got it and stopped it. it took a lot of begging but it finally stopped. what u and the idiots who follow u are doing is nothing like what i did with my posting towards ed. and that was one posting. not 2000 postings. and what u have done for 20 months since then can not be compared to that one posting.

By darth on Apr 12, 2013

  26. that was just your first attack. many more followed. he stopped posting for a while because of yours and others attacks. attacking someone is not “begging”. we dont harass u we correct your mistakes and criticize your obnoxious behavior. gob shite.

By barth on Apr 13, 2013

  27. if u can construe what u do as not harassment.. then theres no way u can twist what i did as harassment.

By darth on Apr 13, 2013

  28. never said it was. cant u read??? idiot.

By barth on Apr 13, 2013

  29. this is so interesting to watch darth in real time. i can honestly say i have never come across such an individual. hes a loon!

By wendell stern on Apr 13, 2013

  30. I’ve liked EJ, ego and all, since I first stumbled across YBR waaaaaay back in 1973. I hadn’t registered his existence until then, but have enjoyed his stuff ever since. Thanks for this; I’m sure I will enjoy it

By Tony on Apr 13, 2013

  31. this represents how darth will ask someone to tone it down[his words]
…”no one really cares about your relationship with mary (whoever the fuck she is).”

  32. this is Elton solo, no?
