San Francisco 1980 [no label, 1CD]

Live at Mabuhay Gardens, San Francisco, CA; December 12, 1980. Very good soundboard.

“The conscience of a nation” might be too heavy a banner to bear for Jello Biafra of the Dead Kennedys but Biafra is nothing if not outspoken. Ronald Reagan and censorship were pet subjects and Biafra’s own spoken-word shows/CDs are both illuminating and a hoot.

Thanks to Terry Hammer who recorded the show; djm5000 who transferred the show; and to hothcanada for sharing the tracks at Dime.

  2. hey bigo, thanks again! loved dk growing up. i don’t have any shows in my library just fresh fruit… i listen to them driving mostly. they played here in 2001 or 2002 at the boiler room minus jello. i didn’t go. it’s not really the same without him.

i think, i got all your punk shows offered. i have x on my ipod right now. i never get tired of social distortion cbgb.

  3. Looking forward to this, thanks guys!! Loved the DK’s esp with their Frankenchrist album. I’m with you, Ed…this band had to have Jello in it…

By DanC on Apr 27, 2013

  4. hey bigo, i checked all the song titles for accuracy. they are correct. however, i’ve seen insight listed as one word on the cd and in sight on the lp no dash. i kind of like it as one word.

yeah dan c, dk were rad. when i saw napalm death here in b’ham, al at zydeco last nov. 26, they played nazi punks f- off. ruled! they covered it years ago on some dk tribute album. l7 are on it too. i think, they did let’s lynch the landlord.

  9. you know, this band has a sick name.

By mohammed taffy pull on Apr 28, 2013

  10. Funny thing about that, Mr. Pull, in cities that took offence with the name, they were just listed as DKs (decays) on the bill. Made me chuckle. Saw ‘em in their heyday and they really kicked ass.

Thanks for the show, Big O friends!

  12. Its free sharing music…If you don’t like punk or any genre of music listed here, go on to one of the other downloads. Ed Saad…ignore it.

  13. I just hope the music lives up to these great song titles! Sure, “Dead Kennedys” is an offensive name… it’s SUPPOSED to be! The death of idealism, death of hope, the death of when politicians and law enforcement were trusted… is there a more perfect American political-punk band name?

  20. This site has some of the most retarded people I’ve ever encountered on the web. Jurassic old farts that seemingly just got on the net yesterday! Completely unsophisticated and unsavvy in music, politics, and life in general. Completely pliable and easily manipulated! I envision some of them sitting in wood paneled basements on folding chairs, feverishly tapping on a keyboard, giggling like little school girls.

  22. ED SAAD!!! Just wanted to say “Hello”! Keep up the good work everywhere… always enjoy and appreciate your insight and stories!

PS: Saw GARY GLARK, JR on Saturday… KILLER!
Saw SOUNDGARDEN on TUESDAY and WEDNESDAY… eeehhh… they were ok. Tuesday was if they phoned it all in. Wednesday was better.

Going to MAIDEN y MEGADETH in NASHVILLE this Summer… well, September.

Been jamming ALOT to the new GHOST! I LOVE IT!!!! Saw where MAIDEN is playing Mexico with SLAYER and GHOST!!!! I wonder if they will have an ALTAR CALL FOR SATAN during that show?

By THE Russian Assassin on May 10, 2013

  23. hey russian assassin, not much for shows happening in b’ham, al. we got down playing here may 23. i’ll probably go. i saw them the last two times they played in april 02 at 5 points south music hall and jan 08 at workplay soundstage. both times were good.

now i did see alice in chains last tues night here at bjcc concert hall, and they were great! if you get on youtube, you can watch some good clips. i would love to have mp3’s of the show.

i saw robert randolph last sat at the annual schaeffer eye center crawfish boil. they were good and the only band i was interested in seeing. they really cut back on this year’s crawfish boil.

oh, yes is playing here july 19 at bjcc concert hall, and we got tickets. i’ve not seen them live so it should be great, even if jon anderson isn’t on vocals. steve howe, chris squire and alan white is enough for me. they’re playing three suits of music. i’m looking forward to it.

i’d like to go see maiden again in nasvhille, but it’d be too expensive.

still finding some great zeppelin jams. i got fillmore east 5.30.69 today and two days ago i got fillmore east 1.31.69. killer!!! i ended up finding fillmore west 1.12.69. i’ve not been able to find 1.10.09 or 1.09.69, though. i have 1.11.69. it’s the first known zeppelin soundboard recording. get it, if you can find it.

in regards to slayer, well that does suck about jeff. i am glad i saw him play with slayer twice. i still enjoy listening to their old albums. the new ones are ok, but i don’t get excited about them like i did when i was growing up. kerry king should change the name like thin lizzy did. he’s the only original member left on these summer tour dates. it’s him, gary holt from exodus, jason newsted from metallica, ozzy, flotz, echobrain, etc…, and john dette on drums. it’s definitely not slayer, man.

  24. for some reason whenever I read Ed Saads posts I feel like I can hear his voice [even though i don`t know him] and I always end up smiling.

Russian assassin, I saw Gary Clark about 3 years ago and wondered what the fuss was about , BUT lately I think his music is awesome!

By sluggo on May 10, 2013

  25. Hey Sluggo! Thanks for the comments! ED SAAD has that same effect on me. I never met him either, but I feel like we could sit and swap stories for hours and hours!
