First Impression [EC Is Here, 2CD]

Live at the Phillips Arena, Atlanta, Georgia; May 21, 2001. Excellent soundboard.

At this point of the game, when all the key Clapton boots are already in circulation, what’s left is essentially for the diehard fans and collectors. And it’s true, The Impressions are marvellous.

Thanks to the person who shared this on the net in 2005.

Uploader’s notes:

Widely regarded, at least by the crew, as one of the best shows of the 2001 “Reptile” tour. Perfect “true” soundboard recording does not have any audience noise except for occasional bleed-through into the stage mics. The sound is comparable to the Mid Valley “Double Image” shows. Thanks to malbie for ripping, scanning, and converting!

Meanwhile, ademotte, who kept this show alive at Dime, noted: “An early date on the “Reptile” tour, notable for its inclusion of the Impressions guesting on several songs in the middle of the set. I’m not the biggest fan of this tour, but it’s an enjoyable performance overall (particularly the midsection of the show with the Impressions). Definitely recommended if you’re even a casual EC fan; I would argue this is the best recording that circulates from the 2001 tour.”

  4. Really enjoyed this fine fine set. Wonderful quality wonderful line up and yet weird somehow to hear where he was at some 12 years ago. Starts well with that lovely blues and then gets curiously more anodyne almost ersatz at times and then when awaiting the choogling more upbeat stuff it doesn’t sound right somehow using guitar tones one hasn’t heard him use before, the more predictable distortion fuzzbox sounds……really worth listening to tho’ a great addition to the archive
    Thanks Big O
