IT’S A BEAUTIFUL DAY
Demos [no label, 1CD]

Live at the Avalon Ballroom, San Francisco, CA; April 9, 1968. Very good to excellent soundboard.

To promote their Live At The Fillmore ‘68 (out July 2, 2013), ’60s psychedelic rockers It’s A Beautiful Day are offering four demo and one live tracks as free downloads on their site.

Thanks to hanwaker who shared the tracks at Dime.

Uploader’s notes:

This was seen at www.itsaboutmusic.com/beautifulday.html. It is a free giveaway to promote an upcoming release and yes… it is kept deep in the dungeons of the WWW. The soon to be released “Live at the Fillmore” features a setlist which doesn’t match any of the 68 tapes in circulation but a compilation from the four circulating shows does include all the songs on the planned disc.

Myshadow posted the following comment at Dime:

Listening to these has [David] LaFlamme doing the demo intros, all first takes, and no guitar. which has these dominated by keyboards incredible violin. amazing stuff. Wasted Union Blues is completely different.  These may be first takes but it’s clear they know what they are playing. I have a recording from the Matrix from ‘67 (I think Davmar may have been the source) that sounds more like these demos, it was before there was a guitar in the band. THANK YOU FOR THIS!

Click on the highlighted tracks to download the MP3s (224 kbps). As far as we can ascertain, these tracks have never been officially released on CD.

Please Do Not Hammer The Links. Due to the size of some of the files, please be very patient when downloading the tracks. It could be that the server was very busy. The tracks should still be around. Please try again later. Kindly email us at [email protected] if you encounter persistent problems downloading the files.

  17. So everyone, will it be Frankie Lymon’s “Goody, Goody”, or The Magic Lantern’s “Shame, Shame”?

  18. Theo-When a song can touch your emotions like that it is a sure sign of the artist reaching the height of their abilities. The way true music should reach you. As an art form. I won’t listen to Lou Reeds Berlin or Floyd’s Final Cut because they are just too depressing. Never listen to Hot Burrito #1 after breaking up with your High School sweetheart.Gram Parsons gut wrenching singing will tear your heart out. And The Byrds’ Welcome Back Home gives me chills it’s so haunting. People who have never felt these emotions just aren’t listening. For them there is pop music.

  19. theo..we were just havin` fun..if you aren`t touched by music, well …
and you know what..it seems you took all the ribbing in stride..good on you bro!

By dropkick sarge on Jun 8, 2013

  20. actually Theo, you’ve hit the nail on the head. A lot of people aren’t here for the music at all. Having to weather unwarranted snarky cheap shots is the price paid for valuable and free music. Post at your own risk.

  21. Cats in the Cradle gets to me, I’m divorced and with my kids not living with me I missed alot of things that I can never get back. Even getting them on the weekends, I missed first steps, first words..etc. Now my daughter is grown, married and has a one year old daughter. She is a caregiver for an elderly woman and goes to nursing school. Never really liked the song growing up, but now the lyrics have meaning.
