PAUL McCARTNEY
Moscow 2011 [no label, 3CD]

Live at the SK Olimpiski, Moscow, Russia; December 14, 2011. Very good to excellent audience recording.

At the 6 Music Live sessions at the BBC’s Maida Vale studios in north-west London from October 14-18, 2013, Paul McCartney will be performing, no doubt, tracks from his ‘New’ album, on October 16. (The album will be released on October 14.)

In the meantime, here is Paul McCartney in Moscow in 2011, with some familiar tunes. By many accounts, this is among one of the best-sounding, audience-recorded shows of the tour.

Gsparaco noted at collectorsmusicreviews.com:

Russian Beatles fan site Beatles.ru ran a poll in November [2011] to find out which song fans would like McCartney to perform in Moscow… The winner, by a wide margin, was Monkberry Moon Delight from 1971′s Ram album, followed by Hope Of Deliverance, Once Upon A Long Ago, Lovely Rita and Your Mother Should Know (some very oddball choices). Unfortunately their choices were ignored and none of those tunes made it into the setlist.

The set is similar to the London show except he opened with Magical Mystery Tour instead of Hello Goodbye. Other differences are Got To Get You Into My Life instead of Drive My Car, I’m Looking Through You instead of I’ve Just Seen A Face, and And I Love Her instead of I Will in the acoustic interlude.

This show, recorded by Barghest, was originally shared at Dime in 2011.

Thanks to Phil for re-sharing the tracks.

Note: A longtime music fan, Philip Cohen was a contributor to the now-defunct ICE Magazine and compiled the boxsets for The Yardbirds, The Small Faces, Humble Pie and Nice.

  2. supposedly the entire 15 song performance paul did on the jimmy kimmel show on monday nite was supposed to be available on kimmels site. i dont see it however. i did find 2 songs (new and lady madonna) totaling only just over 5mins. they evidently shut down hollywood blvd in order to make this event happen and allow viewers to see it without being run over. hope the audio of this surfaces soon. at least i got those 2 tracks for now.

    Darth - you don’t say whether the tracks you managed to get are any good or not. Comments on the performance would be of interest. A Fan

  8. btw if u do get the cd make sure u get the deluxe version. the regular one is 12 songs and just over 46mins. the deluxe edition is 2 extra songs and just over 9 more mins. so nearly 56mins mins of music on the full version.
    the longest song on the regular edition is the last song at 4′36. the 2nd of the 2 bonus tracks on the deluxe edition is 6′15. there are actually 2 songs under 3mins.
    btw the cd comes out on the 14th or 15th depending on where u are.

  14. u dont know what i buy or dont buy. and what i buy isnt the topic here. my suggestion is for fans of the artist in question. it has nothing to do with me or what i am buying or not buying. the info is for those who might be interested enough to obtain this cd either thru buying it or downloading it.

    5yrs - i couldnt care less what u want or would accept from me. i didnt offer it to u. i said ‘and i know u wont write to me for a link to dl it’. pay attention here. this doesnt mean i am offering it to u.. u dumbass!! if i had 500 free copies of it that came with free tanks of oxygen and u were suffocating.. id kick u out of the way and step over your rotting corpse as i gave it to someone else. u ASSumed i was offering it to u. but its interesting to note that u still read my posts.
    ==
    what are u talking about paying up for? i didnt say it would be on kimmels site. in fact kimmel himself did. i checked several times and it isnt there. it may eventually be posted there but as of the last time i looked it isnt. so i posted a link to the youtube copy of it. for ppl making an mp3 of it it should be good enough. but what is this ‘pay up’ crap?

    Thanks for the link Darth to the Youtube set - worth a listen fo’ sure

    . . . . . . . . sorry bit distracted there talking about the music

    as Paulie says after the Russian crowd response after Long and Winding Road
    “Thanks you! for….whatever it is you’re saying……..”
    I was going to get into a long diatribe about the words ’supposed’ and ’supposedly’ but really can’t be arsed . . . .

  21. STOP PRESS

    DARTH THE ASS IN ANGRY RESPONSE ON BIG O

    Darth, Supreme Ass Of The Universe, displayed badly-faked unconTROLLed anger today on the popular and much appreciated Big O music site.
    Feigning anger as he does in the majority of his posts, he sent over 50 other site visitors to sleep in a matter of seconds.

    President Obama is rumored to have said;
    “We are putting Syria on the back burner for now; I’m sending our boys in to invade Darth. He is a clear and present danger to freedom, civility, and most of all to the pursuit of happiness.
    His string of mistakes is phenomenal, I heard that he thinks Handel’s Largo is brewed in Munich.”

  26. ernie - but the one on my space page it probably isnt as easy to dl it. i probably would have had to record it risking some buffering problems. i hate when that happens but it does happen every so often. if i do one song at a time.. i can always redo a song but more often than not ill just record something all at once and the problem will happen 50mins into the hour.. haha.
    i guess when kimmel said to check it out on his page i thought he meant the regular site not his myspace page. i never go to that site. i thought it would just be easier to find and get on the regular site. i lucked out with it on youtube and then now that its here on bigo.
    i havent heard about any additional tracks on the japanese edition above and beyond the 2 bonus ones i mentioned. i presume u have the full set list with the 2 extra song titles i mentioned. so it would be nice if there are even more songs.. i only know of 14 titles.

  31. Wasn’t a huge McCartney fan (my fourth favorite Beatle) but still love him and his work. We lost our home (of 34 years) in the May 20th Moore, OK tornado and went to his concert in Tulsa, OK ten days later. It was therapeutic and the best medicine possible. Thanks Paul!!!
