Rock In Rio 2013 [no label, 1CD]

Live at the Cidade do Rock, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil; September 19, 2013. Excellent audio (ripped from HD broadcast).

Ghost (known as Ghost B.C. in the United States) is a Swedish heavy metal band… Ghost are easily recognizable due to their eccentric on-stage presence, five of the group’s six members wear hooded robes, while the vocalist appears in skull make-up, dressed as a Roman Catholic Cardinal. The nature of their identities is highly secretive and their names have not been publicly disclosed; the vocalist calls himself Papa Emeritus and the musicians are referred to only as Nameless Ghouls. Musically, the band is often compared to groups such as The Doors, Black Sabbath, Blue Öyster Cult, Mercyful Fate and Kyuss. - wikipedia

When Papa sang the “above the stars of God” verse, it never felt so true! [And needless to say, when He introduced ‘Stand By Him’ saying, ‘I think they are in badly need of a steady, sexy drumbeat… hey Drummer Ghoul!’ one of us was literally levitating off the ground]. The whole ritual was impressive and we are sure that all the fellow devotees in Rio de Janeiro will never forget this experience!

  2. They totally ripped the look from Portal. Oh, and Portal has 10x the musical chops of these guys too. I normally care not to waste energy berating artists, but it has to be noted here.

That said, this is good audio of standard issue metal, for any interested parties.

    Thank you bigo.

  3. hey bigo, thanks! this is something different. i’ll get it. i enjoy opus eponymous. i play it driving around. i’ve not heard their new one yet. ghost remind me of boc, mercyful fate and or king diamond.

if one’s not really into the all the screaming metal core bands that all sound the same, check ghost out. i dig them.

I saw GHOST 1 week ago tonight (Monday 10-14-13) in KNOXVILLE.

They played a 90 minute headlining set…. all 7 songs off OPUS EPONYMOUS, and about half of the INFESSTESSIUM lp

Then I saw them the next night in ATLANTA (10-15-13)….they warmed up for AVENGED SEVENFOLD and DEFTONES. GHOST only played a 35 minute set…. about 6 songs. We left the minute they finished….I had no desire to watch any FALSE METAL or TEEN METAL after witnessing GHOST.

YES! They are THAT DAMN GOOD! I would go see them tomorrow!

PS: Been listening to the following:

    and ORCHID.

Orchid is PHENOMMENAL!!! Very much in the SABBATH vein… they are doing SABBATH better than this OZZY and SHARON thing going around right now. PLEASE check out ORCHID

    Thank you again, BIG O

  7. if theyve been likened to sabbath and boc and the doors.. it would seem that they have to have some talent. did u even listen to them before forming an opinion? or did u just fart out of your mouth as usual?

By darth on Oct 22, 2013

  8. Ah, darth, once again attacking other commenters without provocation (other than the other commenters expressing opinions you disagree with). Do everybody a favor and shut the fuck up.

  9. kingpossum…. is PORTAL a band? Do you have a link to a website? I would like to check them out

  11. hey russian assassin, be nice if ghost played here. when i was at maiden last year, i saw a bunch of people wearing ghost shirts.

i’ve heard a couple songs by orchid. yes, they sound like sabbath. even orchid is a sabbath instrumental.

probably my favorite of all the sabbath sounding bands was sleep. i have all their albums but vol. 4 ep. be nice to get a show from holy mountain. it’s their best album, to me.

orange goblin i haven’t listened to much. john garcia of kyuss fame sang on two songs on coup de grace. i know those songs. orange goblin and unida have songs on high times: the stoner rock collection. i’m sure it’s on youtube, if you want to listen.

deftones i saw a little bit of at ozzfest 1999, but i really didn’t know much about them. i’ve heard a few songs i like, over the years. well on white pony they did a song with maynard from tool called the passenger, and it’s great. then bored i like from their first album, on around the fur max cavalera from ex sepultura and soulfly was on headup. then on around the fur i liked my own summer. pretty much songs that got airplay, i guess, i know. chino was on soulfly-primitive on one track.

i saw the black crowes 9.11 here in b’ham, al at iron city. they were great! they’re selling the show in various formats on their site, but i paid $55 for a ticket and don’t really want to play $23 plus shipping for the cd’s.

i’ll be at alice cooper 10.31 in montgomery. if you’ll be there, give me an e-mail address so we can meet up.

the sword show on 9.16 got postponed till jan. 6th. other than that, i’ll be at steve vai nov. 13 here at workplay theatre.

proof that darth attacks people unprovoked.
    that wasn`t very nice buddy.

  13. @THE Russian Assassin:

Portal is an extreme metal band from Australia. I knew their website to be but it seems to not be working.

The vocalist goes by the name ‘The Curator’ and has been wearing the pontif outfit for some time, longer than Ghost. He’s also worn the top of a grandfather clock as headgear. The two guitarists play 8-string guitars and spin mind-boggling riffs from them.

Sorry about being a bit harsh on Ghost. I’m a metal fan and I like them just fine. All I meant to do was give Portal its due credit for pioneering the look.

    Cheers, mate.

  14. This has got me curious. Gonna give it a listen.

BTW: ban darth or clear the idiot’s comments as soon as they’re posted.

darth’s mom told me he’s just an asshole looking for attention.

  15. Cool. I’ll be seeing these in a few weeks with Alice in Chains and Walking Papers in Manchester. Both albums are really good I reckon - old school heavy rock, you can’t beat it!!

    By Danzig88 on Oct 24, 2013

  16. Oh, and Russian Assassin, great call on Orange Goblin, awesome band. A Eulogy for the Damned is a classic, they just keep getting better! As for Avenged Sevenfold probably right too. On record they sound great, but I’ve seen them a few times live and they don’t cut it - they can play and have decent songs but there’s always something not quite right, or missing, and I can never figure out what it is. I saw Alter Bridge last night though, they kicked mighty ass, nothing missing there!!

  17. hey russian assassin, goto hrc and scroll down the chat box. there’s a link to get priest-atlanta 6.21.05. if you need queensryche’s set, i can get you that too.

priest is good quality. i’m on disc 2 track 1 which is hellrider. i will tell you that i’m a rocker and diamonds and rust (acoustic) are both numbered track 8 so if you listen to it that way on your ipod it won’t sound right sequence wise. make diamonds and rust track 9. i just fixed it in itunes.

the tags are fixed already but they need work, unless you don’t care. i just added them to itunes and then fixed them to my liking.
