THE ROLLING STONES
Out On Bail [no label, 1CD]

Live at the Capitol Theatre, Passaic, New Jersey; June 14, 1978. Very good soundboard. Includes Philadelphia 1978; speed corrected.

Reviewing the double-LP bootleg version of this show, Garden State 78, David Fricke of Rolling Stone wrote:

This show was a rare intimate stop at the dawn of the juggernaut: the Stones as a stadium-touring machine… on some tracks, Charlie Watts’ unflappable drumming and the keyboards - played by Ian McLagan of the Small Faces and Ian Stewart, the Stones’ original pianist - overwhelm the wolf play of Keith Richards and Ron Wood’s guitars. But the rough-soundboard quality beats the Stones’ later, officlal stadium-gig albums for intensity, and there is a bullish pride in new work.

Some Girls was just out, and the Stones play eight of its 10 songs, including hot tears through “Lies” and “Respectable” and a version of the white-trash-country ballad “Far Away Eyes” in which Jagger makes up for the exaggerated corn of his spoken drawl with a vocal of growling despair. There is more fun later, just before the closing rush of hits. “This is an old Rod Stewart number,” Jagger announces in a rubber-Cockney accent, “that he taught me years ago when I was still in kindergarden.” The song: Chuck Berry’s “Sweet Little Sixteen,” whipped into an Exile-style frenzy. Those were the days.

Thanks to Doinker for all the efforts and for sharing the tracks at Dime.

Doinker noted:

This torrent is from the “Out On Bail” LP complete with 45, which supposedly is the original and better sounding… Ever want a Stones show so good it will blow your socks off? That’s the quote from the venerated Hot Wacks discography. They are not far wrong. This show needs to be played loud enough to fry your cat (you can always stuff it and put it on a shelf over your records. Is it real?? I don’t know. Will it jump on me? I don’t know). Seriously YOU NEED THIS FUCKER, GRAB IT.

  3. hey bigo, the date on satisfaction should be june 17, 1978, and it’s from jfk stadium, according to wikipedia.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Rolling_Stones_US_Tour_1978#Tour_dates

i’ll try to get this tomorrow. i’m tired from working on another ufo schenker show.

  4. I was at the Philadelphia show in 1978 at JFK Stadium, it was a horrible experience. It was an open arena that held 100,000, mostly on benches. It rained most of the day, the sound was bad, and the Stones sucked. I read later Jagger was sick, it wouldn’t have mattered if he was healthy.

This show looks much better. Thanks bigO!

  5. Thank you very much.
Haven´t got the lineage clear. So the complete vinyl was speed corrected?
Here´s why i ask: a great Springsteen set, 78 Passaic… was born to run false too… Couldn´t have been same taper or same machine, could it? Just a thought.

  6. I have a 2CD soundboard set from Swinging Pig that is of the whole show and also called “Out On Bail”. It omits the ‘Satisfaction’ audience cut from Philly/JFK. CD’s are dated 1990. One of my favorite Stones live sets. Mick is very involved with the crowd compared to the stadium shows. The last great Stones tour IMHO.

By Johnny Kinkdom on Nov 7, 2013

  7. I also found a 2CD soundboard set from “Masonic Hall, Detroit, 7-6-78″ that has a better sound mix and some very hot playing. I just found a YouTube of the whole show. Before Darth posted the link!

  8. Not my favourite era but 10 times better than now when they feel they have to drag winners of american idol up on stage with them.
The live shows from early 70`s are probably my favourite.
The four lps released in a row, beggars banquet, let it bleed ,exile and sticky fingers continue to remind me what a great rock and roll band the Stones always were.
    thanks big o.

  11. i didnt know its a contest to see who posts things first. but since u posted the detroit show that u say is 7-6-78 and its really 6-6-78 ill post the cap th passaic show with all 19 songs from 6-14…

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CV8amYn9K_o

maybe people would like that one. who knows?

By darth on Nov 7, 2013

  12. i prefer the detroit show. thanks johnny!

By barth on Nov 7, 2013

  13. if he had posted the passaic yt clip and i posted the detroit one u would have prefered the nj one. duh.

the detroit show has 16 songs btw.
and also.. according to various sources including wikipedia -
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Rolling_Stones_US_Tour_1978
it seems that the detroit show is july 6th not june 6th as it is listed in one place (and not the other) on the youtube link. the passaic show is the earlier show and was fm’d and close circuited in a few theaters in nyc as well. thats how video of it got out.

By darth on Nov 7, 2013

  14. i prefer the detroit show. the audio is cleaner and better balanced. the bass is low but can easily be boosted during playback.

  17. im completely awake. what does that have to do with it being a contest about who posts things first? why is it a race?

incidentally recent performances that i got from the computer that were done on tv shows include -
hugh laurie - queen mary long beach ca 3-26-13 84mins.mp3 (i also got the video of this and its nearly 7gig in size)
pearl jam - sirens & lightning bolt (jimmy fallon ny 10-24&25-13).mp3

Imagine Jimi Hendrix - Hear My Train A Comin BBC (2013) 90mins.mp4 (i dl’d the video but i didnt bother making it into an audio)
sting - practical arrangement (jay leno la ca 11-4-13).mp3
janes addiction - stop(?) (jimmy kimmel la ca 11-4-13).mp3 (i dont know the title of this)

  18. WOW! I give Darth a complement, by saying he quickly posts interesting links and I can’t believe I got one up first, and he trashes me! First, by thinking I am competing with him (ridiculous) and second by claiming I got the date of the show wrong (dummy). Then, when he realizes that I had the RIGHT DATE, does he apologize? NOOOOOO! I am always amused by how much vitriol is spewed your direction, Darth. After this little episode, I am beginning to understand why!

By Johnny Kinkdom on Nov 7, 2013

By canuck yuck yuck on Nov 8, 2013

  22. i didnt trash u. and u didnt compliment me. when u said ‘before darth posted it’ that turned it into a competition. i commented and said i didnt know it was a competition. some other idiot agreed that it was one and told me to wake up. so evidently it is one.
and im sorry but i didnt see u giving me a compliment and say anything about me posting interesting links. u may wanna scroll up and reread your posting. i didnt say u were competing with me. i said i didnt know that this was a competition. the reason i thought at first that u had the date wrong was that the date on the clip that u sent thru actually says 6/6/78. lower down it says july 6th. i checked a few sources incl wiki and found that it was in fact july. it hardly makes me a dummy. if u look at the clip itself it has both dates. if u can claim u said things u didnt i can certainly apologize in my own way without using that word. after all youre misquoting me and even misquoting yourself saying u said this or that when u never did. u failed to notice that i did a follow up posting where i did fix the mistake.
your lack of understanding isnt surprising to me. if u think that what these idiots do is fair and just then so be it. youre no better than they are. perhaps u never were.

By darth on Nov 8, 2013

  23. “if u think that what these idiots do is fair and just then so be it.”

  26. Seems like i prefer Passaic. Even when it would have had deserved multi track and a descent mix.
Love Love in Vain anyway. :-)

By Kint on Nov 8, 2013

  27. passaic was brdcst on fm in beautiful fabulous stereo. it exists on several different boots as superb quality. some are more complete than others. keep in mind what u find on youtube isnt going to be extremely high end sounding. and remember the source that someone is using to post it might not be the best either. but whatever theyre using it lowers it down a bunch of notches once it hits youtube. the absolute last resort to find anything if u are a sound quality enthusiast would be youtube and sugarmegs. use these two sites only . i repeat only when u have exhausted all other avenues.

By darth on Nov 9, 2013

  28. btw… the stand up for heroes benefit concert from the theater at madison square garden in nyc from nov 6th is still being streamed on youtube. u can catch the full 3 hour version of it and there is someone who posted the 22mins of bruce’s set as well. rogers 31min set isnt posted as far as i can tell. however his 31min set from last year is there. oddly he did exactly the same length set last year so dont let that confuse u.
i tried a moment ago to post links to both of these items but the entire posting i put up didnt take and i didnt copy it before hitting submit so i am retyping my entire paragraph. sigh.
    ill try this again.
for the entire 3 hour show.. which is missing the end of bruces set btw.. he picks up an electric set after dream baby dream but the stream cuts off.. u can go to -

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=64CFpeSGSNI#t=22

for the full 3 hour stream u can go to -

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f4T_KoUXfhc#t=26

perhaps someone will have more of the bruce set and the finale if there was one.
i made my audio of the roger set so im happy with my copy of that. and thats how i know it was 31mins.

By darth on Nov 9, 2013

  29. oops that first link should say for the 22min bruce set u can go to. sorry.

By darth on Nov 9, 2013

  30. This looks great, but where do i find the d/l links? Are they hidden somewhere?

All i get when i click on track links is audio playback.

    Thanks!

By mick on Nov 9, 2013

  31. mick - to dl from youtube u need a program that does this. u can find these online if u do a search. theyre free. look for youtube downloaders. if u only wish to own mp3’s of youtube videos then u can find one by searching for youtube to mp3 programs or converters. if u want to actually own the videos themselves those exist too. many of the programs will convert to other formats like avi or mkv etc. the format that videos on youtube exist in are flv. there are only 2 players that will actually play this format without any problems. u should actually own one of them just because. one of them is vlc player. its not a great media player other than for the fact that it makes playing everything very easy without downloading something called codec’s. codec’s are files that most programs dont have til u look for them and incorporate them. for example.. windows media player. this is a fine program that comes with windows but it wont work for a lot of things u may want to play.
in the course of online fun.. u may find u wish to play many different kinds of audio and video files. not all players play all types of files. vlc player and another player called gom will play most files.
the best player there is is winamp. altho this will often need codecs to be downloaded to make files play. there is still no better player however. dont let anyone tell u any different.. theyre lying to u.
    good luck.

By darth on Nov 9, 2013

  32. mick - i might have jumped to an assumption here. when u asked where do u find the dl links did u mean here on this page or the youtube links that i provided? if u meant on this page for the stones nj 78 concert.. i am sorry. if u wish to dl the performances on this page.. as i told u on another page i believe.. u have to right click the link then pick the 3rd choice down in the drop down menu. of course i am not positive how your system works but usually it is the 3rd option.. it says save target as. when u do this it will open up a new screen on your computer and offer u the option of putting the file where ever u wish.
if u need help.. write to [email protected] and ask him to help u. he is pretty patient and understanding of newbies. he will make time for u so u can learn to use the site.

By darth on Nov 9, 2013

  33. “the best player there is is winamp.” 50,000,000,000,000,000 iTunes users disagree.

“dont let anyone tell u any different.. theyre lying to u.” I’ll pass on this one lmfao!

Hi mick- if you’re on a Windows machine, put your cursor on the blue track number and right click, then follow the menu that pops up in the dialog box and choose the location where you want to save the file. On a Mac, hold down the Option key, put your cursor on the blue track number and click, and the file will download to your desktop. Personally, I find it easy to create a folder for the concert on my desktop, then download each track to my desktop, then drag the files to the folder. Enjoy!

  35. “trust me mick.”

Lance Armstrong said that too, so did Toronto’s mayor Rob Ford lmfao!! Everyone I know on a Windows machine uses iTunes. Everyone. It’s free, it’s easy, you can set it up any way you need to.

It was the mp3 audio i was trying to d/l. I must always remember, when in doubt, always right click.

By mick on Nov 9, 2013

  37. go to ask.com and type in the words ‘is itunes free?’ hit enter. look anywhere on the page u wish to look. i dont care what u wish to believe. it doesnt affect me. yes i know a few people who use itunes. no i dont use it. no i have never in my 20 yrs on computers have ever used it. i prefer complete control and power over what i download and have the ability to own play and listen to without any program determining what i have and in what capacity. i have heard all sorts of stories about itunes and none of them are good. when i download music i want it to be mine and i dont want a program like itunes deciding whats mine and if i can move my files from one place to another. i dont wanna have to sign up for anything. i want to be able to take my mp3’s from my computer to another and i dont want any site telling me whats mine. i dont wanna have to pay if i dont want to. u may disagree with what i believe but this is how i feel and how i am. mick may or may not feel the same way. thats not the point or topic here. this site here and itunes arent related and have nothing whatsoever to do with one another. one need not use itunes to listen to anything. itunes might have a program / player to listen to music but it is absolutely not the best one there is. i can absolutely positively assure u that winamp is if not the best.. one of the best. i have many many reasons for what i am saying. u dont have to agree. the facts are the facts. im not going to explain them all to u. u tend to argue even when youre wrong just to see your words in print. u enjoy it just for the sake of harassing and offending and trying to get other peoples especially my fur up. i will not go back and forth with u on this topic any more than i am right now. this posting will end my side of it. i only attempted to help mick download the songs here since he was clearly new.
and no.. i do not believe anything u say. u are a liar. id say it to your face. when u say that everyone who has windows uses itunes thats the most ridiculous thing i have ever heard in my life. nothing is worse than a liar. well of course rapists child molesters and murderers but liars are right behind those.

  39. darth, did your team lose today? Is that why you’re such a whiny petulant child? Or is it the wrong time of the month again for you? Awww.

Go to apple.com, iTunes is a free download. You have to sign up only to make purchases in the iTunes store. 50,000,000,000,000,000 people use it. It’s the 21st century, Paleolithic darth.

“thats not the point or topic here.”
Then don’t spew your rambling claptrap about it here.

“when u say that everyone who has windows uses iTunes…”
I didn’t say that. I wrote: “Everyone I know on a Windows machine uses iTunes.”
Say the first three words out loud while you read them, darthyboy: “Everyone I know”…

Are you choking on so much bile that you can’t read what I clearly wrote?

“trying to get other peoples especially my fur up.”
So you admit that you’re a knuckle-dragging troglodyte.

darth, you’ve been repeatedly exposed here as a liar, so why would anyone believe a liar who says “trust me”? Who would trust YOU? You’re the IDIOT who said three ELECTRIC guitars were ACOUSTIC! AND THEY WERE BEING PLAYED IN A VIDEO!!

“i will not go back and forth with u on this topic any more than i am right now.”
