Turn It Over (Bill Laswell Remix) [no label, 1CD]

Unreleased tracks.

Thanks to tiburon for sharing the tracks on the internet.

tiburon noted:

In 1999, Bill Laswell decided to re-imagine this seminal jazz fusion album. However, Verve Records refused to release the album once it was completed, claiming it would never sell. However, it was released on CD-R directly to a small music shop in New York City frequented by Bill Laswell himself, the Downtown Music Gallery.

A rare, unreleased version of The Tony Williams Lifetime album, Turn It Over. Expanded, remixed, and remastered by Bill Laswell from the original Polydor master tapes. This unabridged version of the complete album includes four unreleased cuts, and five longer unedited versions from album sessions - which was intended as a double LP but only released as an editied single LP. Cover art by Russell Mills, liner notes by John Szwed. Thanks to Bill Laswell for rescuing, and finally giving a proper mastering to match William’s original intentions, to this most seminal, groundbreaking recording, mixing jazz, rock, prog and metal years ahead of virtually everyone else!

  9. Wonderful stuff, thanks. Larry Young (aka Khalid Yasin) is one of the greatest underappreciated talents of the ’60’s and ’70’s, I’m thrilled to hear more from him here.

  10. I had heard of the CDR release from a friend who searched in vain for a copy. Bought Emergency! on release and loved it. Never found (Turn it over) to be as compelling until today. Thanks BigO and tiburon, whose posts are a treasure. Will be burning a copy and mailing it to my friend who retired to Costa Rica. It will make his day too!

  14. As long as we’re promoting unknown bands, here’s one of my favorites: Go To Blazes. They’re no longer together, but you can still get their used CDs at Amazon and Ebay. All five are worth having if you’re into Stones-like roadhouse rock ‘n roll/hard country and great cover songs by Kinky Freidman, Gordon Lightfoot, and Johnny Paycheck. YouTube has a lot of their material, here’s a fine cover of Lou Reed’s “Underneath The Bottle”:

“Why I Drink” and “Got It Made” are also on YouTube, that’s a good overview of GTB.
