Los Angeles/Oakland 2013 [no label, 2CD]

Live at the Annual KROQ Almost Acoustic Christmas, Shrine Auditorium, Los Angeles, CA; December 8, 2013. Live at Not So Silent Night, Oracle Arena, Oakland, CA; December 7, 2013. Excellent audio (extracted from webcast).

The 24th Annual KROQ Almost Acoustic Christmas makes its return to the legendary Shrine Auditorium on December 7th and 8th, 2013, featuring two nights of incredible performances from many of today’s biggest bands! Proceeds from the KROQ Almost Acoustic Christmas benefit local charities Para Los Niños and the Al Wooten Jr. Heritage Center.

The Canadian Arcade Fire have been going great guns since the release of their latest album, Reflektor (October 2013). Here are two recent shows.

Randall Roberts wrote in the Los Angeles Times:

Arcade Fire blew through the Shrine with an overwhelming force. Promoting its career-peak new album “Reflektor,” the band has been doing warm-up gigs for the past few months, and, man, are they getting in tune. Coupled with a perfectly engineered mix - somebody give that sound person a raise - the band at its best offered huge guitars and tangled solos but merged them with so much crazy rhythm as to stir a kind of hurricane. Afterlife was especially transcendent of the new material, and Sprawl II (Mountains Beyond Mountains), from the band’s Grammy-winning album, The Suburbs, seems to levitate a bit higher each time it plays it - no small feat.

Mr. Saturday Night Special strikes again! Got a brain that’s gray and cold! darth, are you aware that PBS does not broadcast all of their shows at the same time around the US? Austin City Limits airs in my area on Sunday nights. Anyone who wants to know what the PBS TV schedule is can just go here enter a zip code, and follow the instructions.

“snl tonite is justin timberlake which im sure no one cares about.”
darth, as you probably don’t know part 2, an appearance by JT means it’s possible that he’s doing another hilarious music video with the dudes from The Lonely Island. I’m sure you and all the teenybopper fans of the tousled puppy dog Sheeran (a Ginger who appeared in a very bad Taylor Swift video) were watching to see which hoodie he’d be wearing.
