Geneva 2013 [no label, 1CD]

Live at the Salle des Fêtes de Thônex, Geneva, Switzerland; November 2, 2013. Excellent digital broadcast.

The Pixies emerged from Boston in the late ’80s to take up their mantle as one of alternative music’s favourite and most influential bands. Assembled by Black Francis and lead guitarist Joey Santiago, they were joined by bassist Kim Deal and drummer David Lovering, this quartet established their reputation with fuzzy, distorted guitar riffs and lyrics that were oftentimes  skewed and playfully perverse. At a time when pop and rock music was nothing but jaded, the Pixies’ vitally brash and bold approach injected a real shot in the arm of contemporary music.
- Review of Surfer Rosa (BigO’s 100 Best Albums 1975-1995)

In June 2013, Kim Deal left the group; and Kim Shattuck joined the Pixies for the 2013 European tour. In December 2013, it was announced that Paz Lenchantin has joined the group for the 2014 tour.

The Pixies’ Surfer Rosa (1988) and Doolittle (1989) continue to be essential listening.
