Manassas 1996 [Midnight Beat Records MB CD 101/2, 2CD]

Live at the Nissan Pavillion, Stone Ridge, Manassas, VA; July 21, 1996. Excellent mono soundboard.

If you don’t want to buy any bootlegs because of the poor sound qualities, then you probably haven’t heard this CD yet. There is absolutely no audience noise, the mix is perfect, much like it would sound on an official recording. The only problem is that it’s in mono, the bootlegger probably didn’t have a stereo VCR, or the video was never released in stereo. Apart from that, this is the best sound I’ve ever heard on a bootleg.

  3. Thinking at first ANOTHER Steely Dan bootleg? Love this band lots but also love cookies which we can get a LOT of this time of year. But some goodies from the Dan here which do not usually show up on bootlegs, so I will look very forward to this…

  10. Hey Emperor, I refrain from dumping on music I know others enjoy, BUT… since you opened the door, I get to unload and say I couldn’t agree more. I have idiot co-workers who play this nonsense for hours out loud AND sing AND play “air-bass” to it! I used to think of these guys as air-conditioning music. Recorded in pristine conditions, no sweat, no energy, no grief, no passion, no mistakes, no nothin’. All is perfect, fine and cool, dude. Just a constant self-impressed monotony. Arghhh.

OK, I feel better. Tirade subsided. If my co-working idiots are reading, and do enjoy this, good for you (but in headphones, please). Happy New Year y’all!

    Back to Eric.

  11. Air bass and melodica aside I’d just like to say - you can never have too much Steely Dan! This one’s been around for a while but it’s a good one. Thanks Bigo and RIP Ricky Lawson.
