London 2013 [no label, 2CD]

Live at Dingwalls, London, UK; May 24, 2013. Excellent soundboard.

The Dream Syndicate had been compared to The Velvet Underground in the past “but it doesn’t matter because every generation needs a VU and Dream Syndicate’s The Days Of Wine And Roses held that flag in the early ’80s.”

Dream Syndicate, which broke up in 1989, reunited in June 2012 for a Barcelona gig; and Dingwalls was the site of their first ever UK show in 1984. This May 24, 2014 show was part of the band’s ongoing reunion shows to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the release of their debut album, The Days Of Wine And Roses.

After playing four shows in September 2012, Uncut reported Steve Wynn as saying: “I went into the Spanish shows with a little bit of caution. I’m really proud of what we did the first time around and wouldn’t want to do anything to tarnish or diminish our reputation. But I was so excited to see that the new shows not only replicated our sound and style but actually picked up on the dangerous, random, unhinged edge that was what I loved about being in the band in the first place.”

Thanks to songhunter for sharing the tracks at Dime.

songhunter noted: “OK, here’s one of the recordings I made during the European Dream Syndicate tour last year. It was amazing to travel with the band, see so many shows and venues.”

Meanwhile, RSDundee commented: “Steve was bothered with electric shocks from the mike for the whole show, however he didn’t let the whole ‘near death experience’ put him off too much.”

  5. wow big-O! fantastic seeing this, can’t wait to hear it. the syndicate were an amazing and under-rated band, that fall into the coulda, shoulda, woulda category. too bad karl precoda(original lead guitarist) was unwilling to be involved,as he was as unique a player as they come. sorry to see them go 25 years ago.

  6. Thank You very much, BIG O!
I saw these guys in June of 1983 here in Atlanta. It was their very first visit to ATLANTA…. they played the 688 Club here and are you ready for this?

They warmed up for THE BLASTERS! What a night! No joke, it was about 110 degrees in there that night… and the stage was barely big enough for THE BLASTERS and their horn section, etc.

What a night! Over 30 years ago…. where has the time gone?

Steve Wynn and DS are one of my all-time favorites! Can’t wait to crank this on the home stereo.

BTW, the show was in 2013, not 2014 as you mention. :) That really threw me for a few seconds…

Keep up the great work! I know I don’t say it often enough, but you are certainly appreciated and respected for ALL you do for us!
