Tokyo - Second Night 2014 [no label, 2CD]

Live at the Tokyo Dome, Bunkyo, Tokyo, Japan; March 4, 2014. Fairly to very good audience recording. A bit distant but vocals are distinct.

It was at Tokyo Dome on Tuesday (March 4) that the band performed the rarely heard ‘Silver Train’, which appeared on the album ‘Goats Head Soup’ and was released as the B-side to ‘Angie’. Former Stones guitarist Mick Taylor appeared as a guest performer on the track. The track won the “fan vote”, a fixture of Stones setlists in which local fans nominate a track via social media. As the vote was closely run, the band also performed the runner-up, ‘You Got Me Rocking’, from 1994’s ‘Voodoo Lounge’. - NME

Luckily they opened half an hour early, half an hour before 1 pm, so it was real quick like 20 minutes shopping… By 1 pm it was more than one thousand in the queue, and the queue kept there until after the show. Don’t know about during the show. I was inside the Dome then… We were freezing so much we went into the nearby Starbucks for some warming up after the shopping experience and some walking around, coffee and a nice cake.

As we came out from our warmup coffee we faced the Tokyo Dome, it was still more than four hours before the Stones would be on stage, but we were hearing loud and clear… Silver Train… So great to hear Mick’s voice, the guitars, the song, the harmonica, and we knew this might be a song we would hear later tonight. Then they did a second complete take of Silver Train, and we know for sure they were seriously planning it into the set list. This was rehearsals not just soundcheck.

Then Angie, they make a grown man cry. As we get older I hear more and more fans and friends say how much they love Angie. Daughters have been born and named Angie… Then they did the intro of You Can’t Always Get What You Want with the choir and, finally, Happy. We were happy, and went for a beer and some sushi at our now favorite 5th floor Japanese restaurant nearby the Dome…

Silver Train with Mick Taylor. I spent my days and weeks before the tour in Paris listening to the making of this new version, and it was a bit different to hear it for real inside the stadium. Goats Head Soup was my third new releases Stones album so I have special feelings for that album. How much I wish they could do a show with every song from this album, I know I have to settle with this one and Angie tonight.

Thanks to Arashi for recording the show; and to DTrance who shared it (24/48) at The Traders’ Den. Thanks also to werther2003 for sharing the CD-friendly tracks at Dime.

  20. Hi daves not here, just to bring you up to speed, there are a series of posts here by a troll pretending to be darth and myself. It looks like some of the more obnoxious ones have now been deleted by BigO. My initial ‘WOT NO TROLL’ post has clearly stirred up the jihadist troll network who wish to demonstrate that only they are entitled to freedom of speech.
This is,for me, not about darth and his comments, but the vile posts that follow from these trolls.
Most of the music blogs I visit have a great community spirit of like minded people helping to share great music ( A perfect example of this is Willard’s Wormholes, just click in the comments to see how it’s done) The vitriol that is unleashed against darth at this site is quite horrific, like or dislike his comments, that is fine by me, but I am sure that I am not alone here at feeling uncomfortable with the comments of these trolls. I know that nothing I says will make any difference here and this post will lead to more ridicule but if I did not say anything, it would make me no better than them.

  21. obviously you havent been around long enough to know the real darth…

just stick around long enough & you will change your opinion on this lost soul…

    By Jerry's Finger on Apr 19, 2014

  22. gmal - u are so very kind to voice your opinion on the side of the underdog. such bravery too. im impressed. such a risk u took.

and yes.. willards is a great site. there are so many others as well but as i mentioned elsewhere when too many people know about some of the really good sites they tend to disappear. perhaps not thanks to those of us who appreciate the offerings but maybe too many people sharing with too many others if u know what i mean. i tend to share with very few nowadays and they last longer. funny thing.

By darth on Apr 19, 2014

  23. you know why those sites tend to disappear darth.
They disappear because the owners don`t want you there. You attract so much dissent with your assinine, uneducated, bullshit rants.
    that is why they disappear.

By daves not here on Apr 19, 2014

  24. i tend to share with very few nowadays and they last longer. funny thing.

once again its always about you isn`t it darthie boy.

By daves not here on Apr 19, 2014

  25. u make it about me. i dont. your previous comment claims that the owners of the sites dont want me there. how would they even know im there? an entire site or blog gets shut down because im there or dl’ing from it according to u. here u make it about me. u cant control yourself. u feel the urge that u arent able to resist to respond and comment on. and somehow this is me making it about me? its not u making it about me?
then only a moment later u post again like u couldnt get it all out in one posting.. like it was exploding out of u.. more stupid comments about me. and again im the one making it about me?? not u???? but me?? really??

By darth on Apr 20, 2014

  26. GMAL, you ain’t alone. It’s a very weird personal obsession some have with darth that seems unquenchable. Very “Les Miserables”. The guy is hounded, baited, trashed, then he understandably reacts (who wouldn’t?) and he is trashed for defending himself for being trashed. I still don’t know why people can’t just ignore what bothers them. It’s probably that “who gets the last word” illusion of victory. How adolescent can you get?

And Sarge, if you’re reading this, I meant to thank you for your assistance with the Willard’s Wormholes site. A goldmine. Seriously, much appreciated.

  27. @darth…

it would be great if only YOU posted once…!!!

    what hypocracy from YOU…!!!

except everyone here has to endure the same explosion of lies…misinformation…TV listings…long boring blow fest paragraphs personal blog of YOUR narcissistic virtue…

but have a great day darthy boy…!!!

    By Jerry's Finger on Apr 20, 2014

  28. Hi lowendbill, Thank you for your comment. Happy Easter to you and all at BigO

By GMAL on Apr 20, 2014

  29. One great feature at Willard’s, and many other sites & blogs, is that it’s tightly moderated.

By Dingus on Apr 20, 2014

  30. you mean that if someone like darth were to carry on there like he does here he would be prevented from posting?

By no darth? on Apr 20, 2014

  31. No, I believe that means that the trolls on this site would have posts blocked.

By jdallenx on Apr 20, 2014

  32. It’s the moderator’s discretion as to which comments appear, and whether someone is blocked. I never see long winded blathering BS, cursing, attacks, TV Guide listings on music sites that are tightly moderated. Then again, not many music sites are as busy as bigO, and I doubt that they want to spend most of their time moderating.

  38. what u seem to be missing and i dont understand why is when i post the tv listing thing its music artists only and its normaly live performances only.

if u dont like my information dont read it. u have the power to pick what u wish to read. u do not have the right to dictate what others should have the choice to read if they so wish.
if i forget to post something and remember it after i hit submit and return to post a follow up or if another item comes up without someone having posted after my previous posting i dont see any reason i shouldnt post again. i dont have to wait til someone posts just so i can post again. thats ludicrous. just the other day i wanted to post a comment saying someone had died. i found a particular show to post it on from several years back and the last comment on that particular show was mine. using your logic i shouldnt post there because i had last posted there and posting again would put me there twice in a row. thats just ridiculous. your rule makes no sense. luckily u dont make them. i guess u can on your blog.
unfortunately it doesnt seem to have to be your blog for u to harass people however.

btw.. if my postings are so boring.. why do u read every word? and what pushes u to respond to nearly every posting? dont answer. its rhetorical.

By darth on Apr 21, 2014

  39. @darth…

yeah youre right darthy it is absolutely rhetorical…

everyone knows exactly “what YOU are missing”…!!!
