Strawberry Pop [Hiwatt Records, 1CD]

Live at the Strawberry Mountain Pop Festival, Vancouver, BC, Canada; May 17, 1970; Very good mono soundboard. Live at the County Fair Grounds, Santa Clara, CA; March 3, 1971; very good audience recording.

Original 2004 Notes:

Now, here are two great Faces performances from the year 1970 [sic]. I am not 100 per cent sure about the dates, the Vancouver show could also be February 1971. The Santa Clara show just surfaced out of nowhere - I haven’t seen it listed anywhere and I haven’t been able to find confirmation that the Faces did indeed play there. Back in those days Faces played in the UK one day and then in the States a few days later… Anyway, these are great powerful performances and Rod is really cooking. He says before Flying “I know you’re cold but fuck it - this is a slower one…” so it is obviously cold…

Since then, this disc has been pretty well shared among fans.

Thanks to the person who shared this on the net in 2005.

  2. Oolala. First song, they should have liked the Jeff Beck Group. :-) Pure pleasure as it seems. Thank you, BigO!

  5. Love the version of “Maybe I’m amazed”. Always a great song but Rod gives it a bit more than Macca ever would.

  6. FYI, the Santa Clara County Fairgrounds are in San Jose, CA, not Santa Clara. Easy to confuse if you aren’t from around here, the fairgrounds are owned by the Santa Clara County government and there’s also a municipality called Santa Clara. Just to be more confusing the new stadium for the San Francisco 49ers is in the city of Santa Clara, 40 miles or so south of San Francisco.
