Definitive Denmark News [Wardour 109, 2CD]

Live at the Falkoner Theatre, Copenhagen, Denmark; April 13, 1978. Very good audience recording.

By many accounts, an upgrade of the previous Denmark News (Wardour 048) boot.

Regarding Denmark News, gsparaco of collectorsmusicreviews.com wrote in 2011:

Queen waited four months between ending the News Of The World North American tour before playing in Europe. The first show was in Stockholm on April 12 and was released on the silver title Big Disgrace (GE-254/255) on Gypsy Eye, one of their last titles before converting into the cdr label Breakdown.

The second concert of the tour at the Falkoner Theatre in Denmark is presented on Denmark News, one of two Wardour releases from the first two weeks of this tour. Denmark was released previously on Rock ‘n’ Roll, Tonight, Okay!! on Gypsy Eye (GE-123/124) which used a high generation copy of the common tape source.

Denmark News used a source closer to the master and sounds fuller with more dynamics. It is a significant improvement of Gypsy Eye. There are several very small cuts on the tape after “Spread Your Wings”, “The Prophet’s Song”, “Tie Your Mother Down”, “We Are The Champions”, and “Sheer Heart Attack” but no music is lost.  Perhaps the taper was checking the tape between songs. There is also a slight tape wobble during “We Are The Champions” and the encores. Some claim this is the best sounding tape from the entire European News Of The World tour that exists. The venue is small and wasn’t sold out (Freddie complains about the latter during the show), but helped the taper produce a highly enjoyable tape with a wonderful live sound to it.

Silver disc > WAV (with EAC) > Flac level 8 (with XRECODE)

  2. Thanks, bigO!

  3. I saw them in Memphis Oct. 29, 1978 (and I have my ticket stub from the concert to prove it). Queen was a great band, and put on a fabulous live show. Freddy was one of the greatest entertainers and front men ever; may he rest in peace. Absolutely one of the all-time greatest. I have always really liked “News Of The World” and the LP’s that came before it. A whole raft of thank yous for this, BigO!

  4. i dont know how many ppl have seen it or have owned it etc but lately on several stations is a show called live at the artists den being repeated of robert plant with band of joy from nashville tn 2011. its an hour long and if i happen upon it i leave it on as im clicking thru the channels. even tho ive seen it it is one of the few shows thats worth watching / listening to repeatedly. if u happen to catch this one and dont yet have it.. put extra effort into making sure to watch this one. it is that good. not a lot of robert plants stuff is that great but this particular show is one that is surely in his top 2-3 since zep.

there is some new queen news out there too if anyone is interested btw.. titles and 2 new albums coming via brian may etc. if anyone wants that info i can post it.

  5. not a lot of robert plants stuff is that great

u are out of your mind.
what musical credentials do u have that would make anyone think that u know what uare talking about ?
Plant is the only member of Zep that has continued to reinvent himmself unlike pagey sitting in the studip remastering 40 year old tracks for resale.

  6. i didnt see this posting since other postings had moved it off the top 10 and i didnt check it often enough to catch it. i stand by my original comment. some of his stuff is amazing some isnt. a lot isnt. the stuff that is of course is great enough that we tend to forget the stuff that isnt very good. no im not out of my mind. im a huge fan of zep and of much of what plant has done since. but not everything. im picky. it has to be good for me to think its worth listening to. im not one of those people who thinks anything he touches or contributes to is gold simply because hes robert plant.
zep was pages band. it is up to him to work with zeps catalog if anyone is going to do it. he produced the orginal recordings and he has to do what needs to be done to remix and work with them again to reissue them and take the old material that was never issued and put them out along with the reissued stuff in the box sets.
u knowing my credentials doesnt matter. its not like if u knew them u would suddenly say oh ok then everything is on the up n up now. we’re all good.
page has done a lot of work after zep as well u know. perhaps not as much as plant but is it a competition?

    it would matter .
If u are a musician then u have a better handle on what is good than if u are just a fan because understanding and respecting talent from that level makes it different than what u say is good simply because it is somethin”Like” doesn`t always equal good just as “dislike” doesn`t mean bad.

  8. one neednt be a musician to understand theory and know music. i could be without arms or legs and know enough to have an opinion that is perfectly and completely valid. your thoughts on whether or not they are being based on whether im a musician or not bear no significance on reality. im sorry.
theres no such thing as just a fan.
however.. i agree that what anyone likes or dislikes has nothing to do usually with what is good or bad. ive argued that for over 40 yrs. if educated however on what makes good / bad music.. then the person claiming this or that is good or bad.. they would have a valid point.
and the performance i mentioned that plant with the band of joy was being shown was in fact a good one.
lets put this discussion to rest now.

  9. Good posts as always darth.More often than not we don’t like really does suck.

    By jumpin'jim on Jun 5, 2014

  10. well there are ppl who post here without a clue. like when someone who we’ve all seen just posts and says that all the stuff here that is older or by older musicians sucks etc. im sure u know what i mean. and then theres the other end of the spectrum too. look how many fans there are for rap and hip hop and bands like kiss and the osmonds other bands / groups that well.. u know. lol

  11. look how many fans there are for rap and hip hop and bands like kiss and the osmonds other bands / groups that well.. u know. lol

o , i see, only u get to decide what is shite.

By monkeyass on Jun 5, 2014

  12. no im not saying ‘only [i] get to decide’. how did u pick that out of what i said?
my point (and jim agreed kinda) is that when things suck most people agree on it. and when things are good most ppl agree too. its not always the case. but very often it is. a lot of people arent aware enough to know quality music and many arent educated to know what makes music good or what the difference is between good music or their faves. they might think that because they like it thats all it takes for it to be good. proof that im right in what im saying is that there are millions upon millions of fans of absolute junk and crap out there. and no. im not the only one who gets to decide this. anyone who has a clue should be able to figure this stuff out. i happened to name a band and a group and a couple of genres but i could have gone on and listed 100s of ‘artists’ or groups. it would have only offended people and inspired them to say things like what do u mean ’such n such’ has no talent or is no good??
thats not my point or purpose. this isnt about what i like or dont like. i like a few bands that were garbage. i admit it. but usually i like bands and artists that would fall into the hugely talented category.
