Morning Becomes Eclectic 2006 [no label, 1CD]

Live at KCRW-FM, Santa Monica, December 5, 2006. Stereo FM broadcast.

Here’s an early promo session from Lily Allen who has earned the label “potty mouth” for her foul language. Everything you read about her on the net is true.

Her father was a close friend of The Clash’s Joe Strummer and she has admitted that ska and reggae were played a lot at home. Allen’s musical base borrows from the summery fun and melodically light style of both musics. Her own bent for melody shines through all the time. Four songs from her debut album were released as singles.

Among the earliest to build her fan base through the net, Allen used her MySpace page to share her demos, mix tapes and whatnots. According to the wikipedia “The demos attracted thousands of listeners, and 500 limited edition 7″ vinyl singles of one of the demos, a song titled “LDN”, were rush-released and sold for as much as £40.” So now you know Taylor Swift wasn’t first.

Lyrically, this young adult, who has been booted out of enough schools, writes songs that are topical and endearing to all ages. A keen ear for street language and a taste for pungent material make her songs very memorable. Sample Not Big:

You’re not big, you’re not clever,
No, you ain’t a big brother
Not big what so ever.

A brilliant FM recording with no static and perfect stereo. Thanks to doodoodooboy who shared this on purelivegigs.
