ELTON JOHN
West Of The Rockies [Bell Bottom BB041/42/43, 3CD]

Live at the Portland Memorial Coliseum, Portland, Oregon; October 14, 1975. Fairly good audience recording.

Here’s one for the fans… or down memory lane. You might want to give this a miss if you are expecting pristine soundboards or excellent audience recordings. Or put it this way - if you were an Elton John fan in the mid-’70s, this would have been gold! Those were the days when bootlegs meant warts and all.

Thanks to jingledale for sharing the tracks at Dime.

The “West Of The Rockies” ended up being a very short tour in support of the just released Rock Of The Westies album (which, for those of you who collect such info, was originally titled Bottled & Brained with the intention of Dan Dare being the first single). As I recall (and I may be wrong) but I think Elton cut the tour short on doctors orders/recommendation due to exhaustion… The dudes that recorded it talked way too much. The concert however is interesting as Elton did a number of songs he hasn’t done since. Dan Dare (Pilot of the Future), Bitter Fingers and (Gotta Get A) Meal Ticket are great if only because of the oddity. Dan Dare and Meal Ticket rock! The new band and Elton were in fine form. Those were the days of Elton indeed! For you Elton fans, this is a must! If you find it, get it and, holy cow, your stars could very well be read on the planet Mars!

Unknown Lineage.

  2. Elton John did Meal Ticket live in Oct 12 2001. be sure to set to 480p. Sounds a bit better there. But the band is definitely not as hot as in 1975!

  5. I’d love to have an official release of this show. What a mixed bag of songs and take note of what’s missing. No Saturday Night’s All Right For Fighting, Bitch Is Back, Honky Cat, Daniel, Crocodile Rock, Tiny Dancer…

I bet people were pissed at this song list.

  7. I saw the Seattle show from this tour. I’ve never seen the Seattle Center Coliseum (now Key Arena) so packed. Every stairway had people sitting on it. He had a great band at this point in time…Great memories…
