San Diego 1973 [no label, 2CD]

Live at the Sports Arena, San Diego, CA; January 30, 1973. Very good soundboard.

Sometimes a song can just take you away, by just sheer familiarity. That’s what Samba Pa Ti (especially in this medley form with snippets from Breezin’, Never Can Say Goodbye and Brazil) will do to you. It may be comfort food for some but it does get you through the day.

Thanks to HermanLR for sharing the show at Dime.

HermanLR noted:

First of all jdbrewer26 made me realize that some SBD shows from early 1973 had never been shared here before. Thanks for reminding me of it! And taking into regard that Santana has had worse spells, these have to be heard… San Diego features a Lotus setlist. Smashing show of a superb band, of course. The SBD quality is good, though I felt the need to run Audition to improve it a bit on the high end.

mrnym1 added: “Free Angela includes a Promise of a Fisherman theme on keyboards. I’ve never heard of live performance of this song with the guitar part, and even the theme itself seems relatively rare. A nice surprise. One of my all time favorite Santana pieces, from the Borboletta album.”

Picture by Heinrich Klaffs - Thanks!

  8. Another great Santana Live post here on Bigo, love it. Maybe some day somebody will post the 1975 or 1976 Show from London (I think at the Rainbow). It was aired at German broadcast around 1977/1978. It was my very first live tape and I listened to it till it fell apart. Maybe my wish come true one day to hear that again (Songs similar to the Moonflower LP but in my memory even more dynamic). Thanks to BigO and all you great commentators !

  10. does anyone know if the 1976 Beacon Theater FM broadcast was ever aired in full? I have only ever seen a version that is around 50 to 60 mins long.

Thanks again for the great post, BigO.

  12. i think bigo posted that jam session on here a year or so ago. its the santana band with eric. no other dominos on there. youll find better quality on this site than the youtube recording. i think guitar101 has a really nice copy of it. altho a lot of their older dl’s are not dl’able anymore since the sites have dried up. requests can be made to repost of course just like on here. the one on here might still be there. i didnt check.
