RASPBERRIES
Onenight Sensations [Starrcade, 4CD]

Disc 1 - Live at the Public Hall, Cleveland, OH; 1973. Good to fairly good audience recording. Disc 2 - Live at The Agora Theatre, Cleveland, OH; July 15, 1974. Fairly to very good FM broadcast. Disc 3 - Nightside Studio Party; February 1973(?). Fairly to very good Armed Forces Network radio broadcast. Disc 4 - Don Kirschner Rock Concert 1973 and 1974. Fairly to very good TV broadcast.

The “boyband” of the day (circa early ’70s), The Raspberries, from Cleveland, Ohio, were seen by some as “uncool”, especially next to the British Invasion bands such as The Beatles, The Who, The Hollies and the Small Faces, they still managed to hold their own with their brand of power pop. But as Miket posted at boatagainstthecurrent.blogspot: “The boys started with some chords from The Beatles’ “Ticket to Ride” before ripping into their high-energy hymn to teenage lust, “I Wanna Be With You”… This time, in the same performance venue that had launched The Beatles’ invasion of America in earnest in February 1964, Carmen and Co. were, in effect, giving the finger to the critical powers that be by invoking the memory of the British musicians that had transformed their lives.”

Singer-guitarist Eric Carmen went on to a successful solo career, especially with his hit, All By Myself, after the band broke up in 1975.

Today, Max Weinberg, of the E Street Band, has acknowledged Raspberries drummer Michael McBride’s influence on his playing on the Darkness album; and, according to the wiki, Paul Stanley of Kiss, Tom Petty, and Axl Rose of Guns n’ Roses have all also cited the Raspberries as an influence in their songwriting.

  2. Wow…this site has been on FIRE as of late with all the great bootlegs! Thanks for the recent postings by Derringer, Sweet, Denver, Nice and Raspberries. In the process of grabbing all of these (I think I have much of the Raspberries already, but not in a consolidated collection like this). Thanks for sharing all of this great music!

  4. Some corrections on the download of Raspberries Nightside Studio Party:
tracks 1 thru 9 are from the Nightside Studio Party 10, 11, and 12 are unreleased tracks originally included on a Capitol Records comp in 2002 but pulled from distribution. Tracks 13, 14, and 15 are from Don Kirshner’s Rock Concert, not Nightside Studio Party. The correct title of track 11 is “Oh, Tonight”, not to be confused with their song “Tonight” from the “Side 3″ album. The correct title of
track 8 is “If You Change Your Mind” originally from their second album “Fresh Raspberries”, not “It’s Over”. “Bonfanti” is
mis-spelled on the two Air Force radio spots. Thanks for this great stuff Big O!

  5. Update: the correct title of track 8 is “Please Let Me Come Back”. The
withdrawn comp it was taken from
was released in 2000. The version
of “Come Around And See Me” is the
    original demo.

  6. DAMMIT! I meant to say the correct title of track 10 is “Please Let Me Come Back”, not track 8.

  7. Big O,

This is amazing! You are the best.

    A couple of small corrections:

Track 104 is “Should I Wait”
Track 207 is “Rose Colored Glasses”
Track 303 is “Going Nowhere Tonight”

    Thank you very much!!!!
