PAUL McCARTNEY & WINGS
Live In Newcastle 1973 - 41th Anniversary Edition [CMI Music, 1CD]

Live at the City Hall, Newcastle, UK; July 10, 1973. Good to very good soundboard.

Welcome to a labour of love… Thanks to CMI Music/lzepfan for the efforts and for sharing this at Dime.

CMI Music/lzepfan notes:

Unfortunately after 20 years since Unsurpassed Masters Vol 1 bootleg which features excerpts of this concert in FANTASTIC quality was released, this source has never reappeared in a complete form.

Here’s my attempt to create the most complete and listenable recording of this concert. One song from the set list, ‘Say You Don’t Mind’, is absent here, as there’s no known professional recording of this song available in the collector’s community, possibly it wasn’t featured in the mysterious Apple Acetate.

As I know there’s an audience recording of the whole show available but it’s impossible for me to find it.

I’ve chosen to work with the three most common sources. Source 1 and 3 were speed corrected and EQ-processed to improve the sound quality and to match Source 2 as much as possible. All sources were spliced together to receive seamless listening experience.

Lineage:
Source 1 (*): Apple Acetate > ? > Learning To Fly (2000 VOXX 0001-001) Silver CD > CDR(1) > WAV 16/44 > WAV 32/88 > restoration/merge/remastering > WAV 16/44 > FLAC
Source 2 (#): Apple Acetate > ? > Unsurrpassed Masters Vol.1 (1994 Strawberry Records STR 002) Silver CD > FLAC > WAV 16/44 > WAV 32/88 > restoration/merge/remastering > WAV 16/44 > FLAC
Source 3 (+): Apple Acetate > ? > Wings Live In Newcastle (1991 Mistral MM 9117) Silver CD > WAV 16/44 > WAV 32/88 > restoration/merge/remastering > WAV 16/44 > FLAC

  2. Looks great! Always love to hear live Paul, especially when he’s actually playing his solo stuff! Thanks.

  3. GO NOW! One of my favorite Moody songs. Can’t tell if Denny’s laughing or crying like the song says.
Actually going to see the Moodys 8-14 in N.H. Nice to hear this early stuff! THANKS

  4. This is without a doubt the best quality I have ever heard this show in. The various boots of it over the years always sounded a bit muffled with not much high end. Thanks Big O!

  8. I always thought “Maybe I’m Amazed” would’ve been a great Beatles song, but I do not know the story of when it was written. This whole set is fabulous. It seems the definitive history of popular music is on bigozine2.com Here, the hits just keep on coming, literally.

  9. Thanks! Looking forward to hearing this show!

  10. Why would they ever let McCullough needlessly rock out the “Go Now” break - when they had a perfectly melodic piano player in the band?

  11. Nicely done, CMI. Maybe Paul will someday release what he has in the vaults.

  12. Wild Life is one of my favorite Paul songs and is my favorite Wings album - so glad to have a live version. This show, among many others, is also proof that Linda can sing. As Danny Fields wrote in his bio of Linda, like it or not, Linda’s voice is a significant part of that Wings “sound.”

  13. *Thank you*. that is all

  14. Great show, thanks! Tonight, Sir Paul will play the final concert at Candlestick Park here in San Francisco. The stadium is set to be demolished soon, and Macca thought it would be grand to play the last concert. It’s especially poignant given that the final public concert the Beatles played was in that very stadium. Tonight, it’s an historic concert given those two facts.

If you haven’t seen him, he still puts on an amazing show. While he can’t quite hit the high notes anymore, he still rocks the house! His backing band is phenomenal, and the power of his music is still incredibly awesome, in the best sense of the word.
