NEIL YOUNG WITH THE STRAY GATORS
New York 1973 [no label, 1CD]

Live at Madison Square Garden, New York, NY; January 23, 1973. Good to fairly good audience recording. Vinyl rip, some pops and crackles.

Posted at highlanddesignstudio.com:

I had orchestra seats in row 24. Neil Young played a great set until someone came on stage and handed him a piece of paper. The note indicated the following: “At 12:30 Paris time today [Tuesday], January 23, 1973, the Agreement on Ending the War and Restoring Peace in Vietnam was initialed by Dr Henry Kissinger on behalf of the United States, and Special Adviser Le Duc Tho on behalf of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam.”

All Neil said was, “the war is over”. Which erupted into cheers. This did not change his song set as he led the band into “Southern Man”. A memorable evening.

Harvest had been out almost a year… guitarist Danny had OD-ed in November 1972 and here is Neil Young, who was devastated by the death, out on the road again.

Thanks to giona for sharing the tracks at Dime.

giona noted:

I transferred this show from one of the rarest bootlegs of Neil Young. I purchased a large collection of bootlegs from an old collector and I taped the bootleg because the quality of vinyl was poor and easy to damage. A few years later, in the late ’90s, I purchased a Philips standalone 770 and I burned a CD directly from the bootleg. There are several crackles and pops but less than on a previously uploaded version.

  2. I was at that show as well. The only moment I remember was when Neil announced that the war was over. For a brief moment he became our nightly news reporter!

  5. What’s the deal with the dramatic difference between the tracklisting here on what’s listed on the back cover artwork?

  6. Hello Brian

There is no artwork based on the vinyl; and the artwork here is a fan-created one. It’s for those who need an artwork. Feel free to create your own artwork.
