Cologne 1979 [Immortal, 1CD]

Live at Studio L, Cologne, Germany; February 16, 1979. Excellent soundboard.

Here is something you do not normally come across. After performing Sultans Of Swing, Mark Knopfler felt it wasn’t good enough so he decided to play it again! “Alright now, let’s do this Sultans and do it properly…”

Thanks to HugoCTD for sharing the tracks at Dime.

HugoCTD noted:

Soundboard recording from the famous Rockpalast concert. Taken from the original silver pressed bootleg “Sultans of swing - live in Germany”. Great concert including very nice versions of Single Handed Sailor and Follow Me Home… The atmosphere is terrific on this concert, a must to have! Complete and uncut show.

Original Bootleg > EAC > WAV > FLAC

  3. Thank you, Big O! Byw…. I saw “X” the other night and they were incredible….as always. I can’t believe I have been going to see them live for 33 years. And it is the same 4 members.

Do you have any live soundboards or studio outtakes from “X” that you could pass along? BILLY ZOOM has always been one of my all time favorite guitar players

  6. the full show with 2nd take of sultans was released on dvd. it was also on vhs in the late 80s early 90s and then rebrdcst in the uk and various european cities. i had a 1st generation copy transfered from pal altho in 90 or 91 i got a copy from someone who had a ntsc vcr in germany that he was able to flip a switch on and record for his american friends without losing that quality u lost when converting. so i got an upgrade. the original dvds were made from the vhs copies. the audio track came from that. audio tracks on vhs tapes were fantastic since they had a larger surface area to use. i saved a lot of my audios in the late 80s and early 90s on vhs tape. then i would later dub things over to audio tape. made things much easier when it came to not wanting to worry about flipping etc.

since we are on a dire straits page today.. i do have a question. maybe someone will know the answer.
there is a famous recording that is listed as being ny 1-1-79 or 1-1-80 i believe. i also believe the date is wrong. it is an fm and i think it was 45-60mins long. anyone have this? or know more info? i dont happen to have it any longer but i still wonder what the details were on it.

  8. This is wonderful. LOVE the early Dire Straits. Pre-MONEY FOR NOTHING, pre-headband. Thanks again, guys. P.S. Don’t get me wrong - I like MONEY FOR NOTHING as well. I’m just really fond of their first three albums in particular. MAKING MOVIES Side One - OmyGod!

  12. There was a single file (whole concert) version of the Rockpalast 1979 show on Archive.org. This version is much “cleaner.” As stated above, you can find the show on Youtube…it is the VHS 1 special. Fun to watch.

    Thanks as always Big O
