BBC In Concert 1971 [no label, 1CD]

Live at the TV Centre, BBC, London, UK, 1971. (BBC In Concert TV broadcast on February 23, 1971.) Excellent radio broadcast.

The Harvest album would only be released in February 1972 and there was a time when Neil Young was still trying to get a handle on “new” songs such as Old Man and even Heart Of Gold.

This show previously appeared on the Broken Arrow boot (DVDs of the BBC In Concert show have been in circulation among fans for a long while now) but these tracks came from a BBC broadcast on July 24, 2014.

Thanks to Other for sharing the tracks at Mind-Warp Pavilion.

Thanks also to Rustygrumpy for the artwork (modified here).

  5. Of the nearly 60 ‘Shaky’ boots Big O has posted for us over the years there are several from 1971 not least the Colorado and Los Angeles concerts and many more from the early 70’s in general but there is the excellent two disc set from the Royal Festival Hall in London that year which the guys posted back in June and is still up and available perhaps you were thinking of that one, Darth?
I’m still listening to that one so this a welcome addition Thanks Big O!

  6. REQUEST: Dear Big O! Thank you for all you do… I love your website. I love the live shows and I love the articles.

I just found this live show on YOUTUBE… it is a complete show by GHOST. It is pro shot and soundboard quality. Would it be possible for you to capture it and carve it up into MP3’s for us? I would really appreciate it. If you listen to a little bit of it, you can hear how good it is…. you would just have to carve off the first 1:50 of the DJ talking.

    Here is the link:

    Thanking you in advance,

  18. FYI this was recorded in February and broadcast in April. Apparently enough was recorded for 3 shows (i.e. 90 minutes), but no other material from the session has ever been broadcast. This info from Radio Times article in week of first broadcast (article entitled, if memory serves, “Thinking April Thoughts In February”). A fantastic show — maybe someday the rest will be liberated!

  20. nor surfaced surreptitiously it seems. 43 yrs and nothing has leaked out. altho as i mentioned the cat and james sets were recorded the same day. i wonder how long their actual sets were then? since only a half hour of theirs is also available i believe.. if memory serves.

  21. I recall reading somewhere that when the Archives Volume 1 were being compiled, the non-broadcast portion of this BBC concert was sought out by Neil and the archivist, but not found. It seems to have been either lost or tossed by the BBC at some point. I also recall that there were only 3 other songs on the recording, but I’m not certain of that.
