FOREIGNER
Atlantic City 2014 [no label, 2CD]

Live at The Music Box, Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa, Atlantic City, NJ; October 4, 2014. Very good audience recording.

When Foreigner played the Manchester Apollo in April 2014, David Randall reviewed:

Foreigner… ticked all the boxes and then some. After that initial alarm, with the absence of Mick Jones, they delivered what can only be described as a monumental performance. The band had already played ‘Waiting For A Girl Like You’ before the professorial presence of their leader, but when he did arrive – without a sedan chair, don’t be nasty – it all moved up a notch… [In Atlantic City, Jones joined the band from Track Six.]

Admittedly the band fell into the package trap of “greatest hits” but they were delivered with so much gusto that we can forgive them for that.  Although it would have been nice to hear ‘Can’t Slow Down’ or ‘When It Comes To Love’ off the current studio album… In 2014, Foreigner could so easily be semi-cabaret but this gig was a masterclass in everything. Nothing remotely cheesy, a catalogue deftly tweaked for modern ears, a band with momentum and a rather appealing heaviness. No wonder all that came before was somewhat shaded. And that mug of Horlicks quickly forgotten about.

Thanks to tapehead2 for recording and sharing the show at Dime.

  3. would much prefer any foreigner from fm tv or sbd pre lou leaving to this crap. but thats just my opinion. there was an innerview with jim ladd in 78 or 79 with live performances interspersed between the songs. they didnt say where those songs were recorded but they were not officially released. i would love to have those performances. i have never heard any live recording of them better than those songs from that radio brdcst.

  7. Darth - I wonder if those live tracks were from the Atlanta 1979 show? That was a show that was syndicated around the world without any interview. If so, it’s available online at the usual blogs and sites :)

if it was 1978, then it could have been from another show - can’t remember the city right now, but I have seen it on Guitars101.

  8. Marg - are you Mark Ronson? ;)

By furiner on Oct 7, 2014

  9. My favorite is the Atlanta ‘79 show - http://www.filefactory.com/file/1ntzb3mn7yxp/Foreigner-Atlanta%2079.rar

By jdallenx on Oct 7, 2014

  10. furiner that is very helpful. thank u. ill use jdallenx’s link to re-dl the show. ty jd. eventually ill check it out as i cant hear it currently for various reasons. soon as i can i will know if it is the show. i know i had the atlanta 79 show at one time. but not in years and years. i know there was at least one 78 show as well. i know kbfh did a brdcst.
i recently moved and probably have atlanta 79 on a cd and also on a drive but it never hurts to have another copy. it only takes a couple of mins to dl it anyway. lately the items on here have been taking 20-40 seconds to dl regardless of how many songs there are.

btw.. even mark ronson didnt jam with frnr at age 8.

  13. what the hell is wrong with you Glenn…?

you’re slipping up…the first 7 on your list already aired when you posted this…

it’s like getting the TV guide late in the mailbox…what good is it if it’s past the air date…?

Ibeginning to think you write these tv listings days weeks in advance & just hit the send button when it gets closer to the air date…but you slipped up…your mind has been in a purple haze lately thinking about how you saw those great artists at age 5-7 & tricycling up to Woodstock…

    By Jerry's Finger on Oct 10, 2014

  14. its still the 9th and in my market the 2nd set of 3 havent aired yet. the 7th is saturday and thats 2 days away. u ask whats wrong with me?? really??? its thursday.. and your saturday night live that is coming up in 2 days has already aired??? what the hell??
queen latifah is on here at 4pm. i posted this at 2pm. people could still see the show. and they can always use youtube and her site to see the performances etc.
colbert is on tonite. plants performance has not happened yet. i dont know what u are talking about.
    then again neither do u.
the site was down most of the nite. i had attempted to post the listing earlier but was unable to til 2pm. the performances can still be seen online as i said.
i also said that i was 9 at woodstock not 7. i lived 100 miles south of woodstock. i didnt ride a tricycle there.

  17. “i didnt ride a tricycle there.”

u had training wheels on your bike by then. and streamers. and a horn that growled like a tiger. grrr!

By barth on Oct 10, 2014

  18. i didnt say the 7th is saturday. the 11th is.

By darth on Oct 10, 2014

  19. the 7th item on the list is sat nite live. thats a saturday. its hozier. u said the first 7 items are all past items. they are not. only 3 of them were. and below the first 3 i said that they can be found online. u need to pay attention to what u wrote. i didnt mean the 7th day of the month is a saturday. i meant the 7th item on my list. the 4th 5th and 6th items were all on the 9th day of the month. thats today. the 7th item is this saturday. thats the 11th of october.

the 7th was Tuesday, saturday is the 11th.

By dropkick sarge on Oct 10, 2014

  22. Looks like I’m going to need a dvr that records shows that aired last week since I cancelled my subscription to TV guide because I thought darth could handle my tv needs.

By dubious on Oct 10, 2014

  23. drop - again.. when i said the 7th i referred to the 7th item on my list. he said the first 7 items had already taken place. i said the 7th item was sat nite live and that was 2 days from now which would be the 11th since today is the 9th. the 11th hasnt happened yet. saturday nite live is in 2 days on saturday. the hoziers will be live on that show. this isnt really that difficult to understand..even for a stupid fuck like u.
i was referring to the 7th item on the list.. not the 7th of october.
then i referred to the 4th 5th and 6th items on the list. they all took place today..the 9th of october. they too had not yet taken place. there was still time to catch them and if they had already aired in your market u could still see them online. either on youtube or on their respective sites.
ellen and queen latifah show at 4pm. i posted the listing at 2pm. colbert airs at 8pm in my market. in some areas hes on at 10 or 11pm. quite a bit of time after i posted the message.
the only ones that had happened before my posting were the first 3. and i even said so in my posting. i was giving a heads up. some people have a ‘go back’ or look back function where they can watch programs that already aired.
if u dont have this.. again.. the ability to find the performances online is there. i have been busy and i moved and i had other important things to deal with so posting the listings of live performances for u people wasnt a priority.

By darth on Oct 10, 2014

  24. heh heh.

By dropkick sarge on Oct 10, 2014

  25. “posting the listings of live performances for u people wasnt a priority.”

  26. hehehehehehehehehe glenny circus boy clown tricyclist…!!!

    By Jerry's Finger on Oct 10, 2014

  27. thats right.. i was the one posting the info. no one else was. so of course it was a priority for me when i was doing it and not one when i didnt do it. duh.

By darth on Oct 11, 2014

  28. gee glen you are so unpretentious humble circus cycling boy…

you are awesome look at you…

    By Jerry's Finger on Oct 11, 2014

    nils lofgrin letterman 7th,
    weezer fallon 7th.

By Numbers on Oct 12, 2014

  34. it said the 10th on here. it was still the 9th in the usa. it was 2pm when i posted it. the date that shows up on here when u post isnt necessarily the date u are actually posting things as u should know by now. do u live in singapore? i dont. im east coast usa. thats usually 5 hours west or earlier than the uk.
when u ask what list i am talking about.. if u look at the 11th comment on this page u will see that i posted a list of tv appearances for the month of october including 3 that had already taken place and 3 after that that were yet to happen for the day i posted them - the 9th even tho the date that appears on the posting says the 10th. it was still the 9th at the time. the site posts the date as if the person posting is in singapore. it doesnt take into consideration that each person is in their own location.
