THE TROGGS
Victoria, BC 1991 [no label, 1CD]

Live at the 94th St Music Hall, Victoria, BC, Canada; March 16, 1991. Fairly good audience recording.

It’s not often that live Troggs gets shared on the net so fans of the group might want this latter-day lineup as a keepsake.

The Troggs had their day in the sun in the ’60s (what with Hendrix playing Wild Thing at the 1967 Monterey Pop Festival) but thanks to Wet Wet Wet’s version of Love Is All Around and the film, Four Weddings And A Funeral, the group became hot again in 1994.

The band’s original drummer, Ronnie Bond, died on November 13, 1992. Dave Wright, another founding member, died on October 10, 2008. In January 2012, after over 40 years of touring, vocalist Reg Presley retired due to lung cancer. Presley died on February 4, 2013 at age 71.

Thanks to crowflies for sharing the show at Dime.

  2. Nice! It should also be noted that the Troggs experienced a bit of resurgence earlier due to their appearance on David Bowie’s 1980 Floor Show/Midnight Special ca 1973, at a time when they could have been more relevant than just an oldies act. A fun band, nonetheless. Thanks for posting.

  4. As my wife said this morning after listening to some tracks from “Trogglodynamite”:
    — I’d bet anything that they’re ABOVE The Beatles and The Stones for you….No?
    —- Yes!!
You never know where True Love is until you notice how much they’re…. Hated.
I always said we have million things in common!!

  5. He said:
    — Hay hay, Serge….
    I said:
    — Wot…
    He said:
    — Hay, hay, Serge…. Randy Newman’s “Good Old Boys”….
    I said:
    — Wot…..?
    He said:
    — Time has passed…. Let’s talk again…
    I said:
    — Wot…..? I ain’t gallop this horse, ane, and I’ve been eating more chicken that you ever seen…
    He said:
    — One day in 1975…..
At this point, this man had finished to put the Illya in me. I said:
    — BUT WHAT THE FUCK DO YOU WANT, CRAZY POET. Respect my wife and my elders from Andover or you might go blind once and for all.

  6. I reckon he has written and recorded good songs, Larry Dale… “Call Chester, Thompson” was not that bad. But the problem with him is that… You never know if you can trust him or not. Guilty or not? Another example is his appreciation for Ian Dury… I remember listening to a song, spring of 1978, by Ian Dury called “Patricia”. I liked it very much. The girl too!!
Well, maybe he’s just doing it wrong…..
PS: By the way, if these comments are too closer to the truth, don’t publish it!!

  7. A harsh truth a day, not more. Well, and even then….
    And even then….
