Buffalo 1974 [no label, 1CD]

Live at the Rich Stadium, Buffalo, NY; July 6, 1974. Good to fairly good audience recording.

When The Band opened for Eric Clapton… click here for the pictures.

Widely reported as the worst show of the 1974 tour, in fact this may be Eric Clapton’s lowest point on stage - ever. Eric is massively, incoherently drunk, and unintelligable at times. As the show begins with EC’s ‘outroduction’ of emcee “Legs” Larry Smith, a member of the crowd shouts out “Clean Up Yer Act!!!!” which really says it all… Members of The Band came out and joined Eric on a disjointed performance of Chest Fever and then, by all accounts, carry the drunken Clapton off the stage. -

Of course, The Band were in fine form.

Thanks to original uploader Davmar; and to amellowsoul for keeping the show alive at Dime.

Thanks also to ethiessen1 for the artwork.

  2. Love me some Levon and The Hawks!
Fantastic document tho’ sad to say the Eric getting sober in pubic recovery story is a good one it doesn’t do to dwell upon the long way round we took to get there! I share the pain!

    Thanks Big O

  7. “Legs” Larry Smith was the drummer for the Bonzo Dog Band, who I love more than The Band (who were great; don’t misunderstand) AND Eric Clapton.

Of course, Eric did “play” ukulele in their song “The Intro & The Outro” and on some of Vivian Stanshall’s solo records.

I have many roios of The Bonzos and Vivian Stanshall, but I would love to have more.

  8. thx Eric (The Other Eric) i did not know that legs larry smith played with clapton! wikipedia has more on legs. he also tap danced on recordings by elton john and todd rundgren!

the bonzos have always been one of my favorites. youtube has a lot of their wonderful videos.

one thing neither legs nor clapton did was play the world’s worst guitar solo:

  17. most of the 74 ec tour is available in sbd quality and while many of the shows are pretty miserable there are some fabulous performances scattered thru out the tour. he was seriously drunk off his ass during a lot of these shows. especially this one. this particular one is considered the worst performance of the entire year. literally. the next worst one is way way better than this one. however if u absolutely must have every single thing eric ever did and even im not that bad and im a clapton fanatic and i often do have to have everything.. altho i have actually dumped some things.. i will offer u a link where u can dl this item.

i warn u.. this is his single worst performance post 1973 bar none. its also an audience recording. with so many sbds from the 74 tour and so many very good or at least better performances than this one.. i cant imagine why anyone would want this one knowing how bad it is.
there are 198 other eric items on this site where i am linking u. i have 100% of them. i cant claim i have absolutely every single live performance there is altho i do have complete tours from 85 86 87 90 94 etc etc. and i have almost every show from 74 75 76 77 78 80 81 83 all the arms shows in 83 a huge bunch from his stuff with roger in 84. after 95 i have 90-95% of every show on every tour if it was worth having. i always bother if its sbd tv or fm and after 95 many of the audience recordings started hitting qualities of r5 and r6. once a recording is that high.. its going to be in my collection unless i really dont like the artist / band / style of music.
i really dont like a lot of what has come out in the last 25 or so years but there are exceptions.
it is believed that this last tour from mid to late last year that eric did in the middle east and far east was his final tour. he will probably still do the odd show here and there but likely will not take on a tour like he has previously for the last 40 years. he filmed this series of shows last year and released it as a dvd with a sort of documentary type feel to it. the sound is superb. it isnt released on cd. i made an audio counterpart of my own for it. its 14 tracks and its called trains planes and eric. the music the stories the people. if u are a fan of eric i suggest u either do this or find a copy online from someone else who did this. there are a lot of other ec fanatics who do stuff like this.
a few years ago.. i dl’d a nice item that i consider one of my faves. it is everything up thru erics appearance on robbie robertsons most recent album. if u already owned every regular official album that eric put out this 11+ gig dl was every single song that he appears on other than his own normal album output. it includes sndtrcks and guest appearances and so on. nothing unofficial.

  20. the subject of ec was brought up. ppl asked for his set. i felt it was a perfect time to explain that this particular set wasnt worth having and i continued on. u didnt have to read it. u sure as hell didnt have to post a complaint about what u read.
i cant hear what i type. can u? rather than complaining about what u read how about being positive and thanking me for it?

as for the link with the links.. i didnt check out which one would work for u. thats your job since u wanted it. i already had it. i just guided u to it. some links work for ppl outside the usa. yw.

  24. Actually the Next night, 7/7/74 in Roosevelt Stadium, Jersey City, NJ was the worst night of the EC US tour….Freddie King came out and breathed life - saving an otherwise very disappointing afternoon.
