Fort Benning 2015 [no label, 1CD]

MWR Concert Series, live at York Field, Fort Benning, GA; May 9, 2015. Fairly to very good audience recording.

It’s 46 years of Grand Funk Railroad (since 1969)… and the group is still chugging nicely along. But then, there are some who feel the group is incomplete (or worse, shouldn’t even exist) without guitarist/vocalist Mark Farner.

Thanks to jackflash for sharing the show at The Traders’ Den.

jackflash noted:

A free concert put on by the US Army Fort Benning Dictoriate of Family and Moral, Welfare and Recreation (an old school, free-of-charge concert). I’ve seen Mark Farner three times in the last four years and it was good to finally see/hear Mel and Don’s version of the GFR classics. I wish they would work out their differences and do a re-union tour/gig.

Overall, a good recording. Minimal crowd noise/chatter. I must have pulled my mic chord as two songs got split… Rock n Roll Soul and Second Chance were [originally] split because I briefly/accidently pulled the mic chord. Maybe 3 to 6 seconds of Second Chance are missing. Just me being an old man, moving and adjusting in my seat. My apologies in advance. Also, there is heavy bass, and bass drum distortion on Second Chance and the Drum Solo, as I placed my mics on my arm chair and went (away)… and got back in time for proper placement for the brief guitar solo.

Thanks also to Eric T for the artwork.

  3. Whats keeping Mark Farner from playing with the band, does he have a solo career?

  4. I’ve seen Mark Farner solo. He was great! But GFR needs Brewer and Farner on vocals! I also think Mark is one of the most underrated guitarist on the planet. Just my opinion.

  5. according to mark farner- he wants to be in the band but brewer and schacher are not interested. farner quit the band in both 1976 and 1999. perhaps that has something to do with it.
