Houston 1988 [no label, 1CD]

Live at Rockefeller’s, Houston, TX; August 14, 1988. Very good mono soundboard.

In 1995, Emmylou Harris released Wrecking Ball. Nineteen years later, Harris reissued the album as a deluxe  three-CD set - the first disc a remaster of the original album, the second a disc with bonus material including unreleased songs and alternate takes, and the third is a DVD containing a making-of documentary. And then she revisited the songs on tour. [Click here for her 2014 Los Angeles show.]

Here is a rousing 1988 show with Harris covering songs such as Mystery Train and To Know Him Is To Love Him. For those who are unfamiliar, Born To Run isn’t the Bruce Springsteen classic. It’s a Paul Kennerley track from Harris’s Cimarron album (1982). Interestingly, Cimarron does contain a Springsteen cover - The Price You Pay. And Hello Stranger isn’t the Yvonne Elliman song.

Thanks to goody for sharing the show at Dime.

goody noted: “There’s some intermittent static-type noise on Born To Run. Fortunately, the problem seems to have been solved, as it doesn’t persist; probably a bad cable and/or connection that was quickly discovered and dealt with.”
