ERIC CLAPTON
Midnight Rehearsals 1974 [no label, 1CD]

Tour rehearsals. Barbados. June 1974. Fairly to very good soundboard.

Thanks to original uploader Geetarz (2009); and to syd for sharing the tracks at The Traders’ Den.

Geetarz noted:

This was apparently recorded in the control room, and one can hear all the-in between song patter as well as rehearsals, which lends a very different perspective than the edited soundboard rehearsal tapes available. I received this on DAT some time ago and have no other lineage in terms of microphones and/or taping equipment. People familiar with “The Oldaker Tapes” know what this is and where it is from. This is certainly an interesting recording and I’m not so sure it’s made its way into many collections, so I’m pleased to offer it here.

Lineage:
DAT > Tascam DA20Mk2 > (direct digital transfer, no PC) HHb CDR800 > Mitsui Gold CD-R > Plextor PX-712a > EAC v. 0.99 Prebeta 4 (Secure Mode) > FLAC

  3. yeah yeah, i know, 461 is eric-lite and all that, but it’s a guilty pleasure of mine. thank you for this!

  4. Rick 461 is perhaps lite is places but its also quite involved as well. Some tracks i.e. motherless children., mainline florida, get ready and let it grow are very good complicated arrangements, I happen to think this was Clapton`s last best work.

  5. The first LP I ever bought, and still some of my favorite tracks. This version of Motherless Children still threatens to skip ahead of the beat, and the cover of Hand Jive is a personal favorite. Thanks, everyone involved.

  6. Back when this was new and radio was freeform these songs ( motherless children, mainline florida, get ready and let it grow) were all over WNEW-FM 102.7 NY . It was a great soundtrack for my teenage years. Thank you BIGO!

  8. Thanks to Big O and the sharer. An enjoyable “Little Queenie,’ relaxed and swinging, better than many of his live show versions. Not too many bands can pull of Chuck Berry this well.
