ABDULLAH IBRAHIM AND MAX ROACH
Music On The Water: Homage To Max Roach
Germany 1997 [no label, 1CD]

Live the Jazz Baltica Festival, Landeskulturzentrum Salzau, Schleswig-Holstein, Germany; June 14, 1997. Very good soundboard.

Original seeder’s description and notes:

“Music on the Water” Landeskulturzentrum Salzau: There is a small pond in the beautiful park of the Salzau Residence, which is used as a cultural centre of Schleswig-Holstein. You will find a small wooden pavillon on the water, at the edge of the small lake (or pond). This pavillon has existed since the spring of ‘96. Ilya Kabakov und Vladimir Tarasov realized the installation “Music on the Water” here…

The wind blows through the metallic objects, the cuckoo is calling, and the wild pigeons coo. Alltogether they mix to aeolic music and the swans are meditating on the lake. It’s still quiet, the charrets are not used as rehearsal rooms, they keep silent in the half circle, but… Jazz Baltica is coming!

  2. Fabulous! Much appreciated!

And not to be greedy, but (to be greedy) as long as we’re on a jazz jag, sure love to see some nice CHARLES MINGUS.

    Thanx!

  3. Once again, thanks for this. These two made a great record in the 70s for a Japanese label. (Strams Of Consciousness) Never knew they linked up again two decades later. Looking forward to hearing this.

  5. Yea, Jack! All things being equal, later period Mingus (70’s-era) might be more interesting, but hey, us free(down)loaders can’t be choosy.
