Glastonbury 2015 [no label, 1CD]

Pyramid Stage, Glastonbury Festival, Worthy Farm, Pilton, Somerset, UK; June 28, 2015. Very good audio, extracted from satellite TV broadcast.

“What a night you’ve got,” says Paul Weller gruffly, not, one suspects, a man who’s ever been much given to spending his weekends trudging through mud with glitter on his face carrying a flag that says PAUL AND SPUD’S BARMY ARMY. “Not just us, but The Who as well.”

The audience roar: there are people here in FUCK KANYE T-shirts and a lot of blokes with Liam Gallagher hair. But these days, at least, Weller is nowhere near as musically conservative as some of his fans. The hits understandably get the biggest response - Changingman, You Do Something To Me, That’s Entertainment, a slightly trudgy version of Start!, a sparkier take on Town Called Malice that concludes the set - but the most intriguing stuff he plays is off his most recent album, Saturns Pattern: if it’s less fragmented and strange than its predecessor, Sonik Kicks, there’s still something exploratory and off-kilter about the piano-powered title track, and the dense, ominous psychedelia of opener White Sky.

  3. from what i understand mavis staples and jimmy cliff did a show in london last nite that was brdcst over bbc2 and the musicians backing them up included peter green and ginger baker. i was busy listening to the deads final show in chicago. ive been busy dl’ing all the shows they did plus the set break music by neal casal and pre show music as well when its been available. there hasnt been a lot of that so far. some of it that has been made available has been incredible.
in any event im hoping that since the above mentioned show was brdcst that perhaps bigo could get hold of this and offer it? please? its much easier to attempt to find things when one knows they exist and that they were made available via tv or fm dontcha know.
peter and ginger in a line up has to be something worth hearing.

  4. . . . have to be in full agreement with darth (July 6 2015) any tracks with Peter green & Ginger Baker have to be worth the while!

  6. Hi darth! Seems an unlikely line up to me!? Have checked the BBC2 schedule for you as I know how keen you are on schedules and there is nothing listed for night of the fifth. There appears to be no plans for Peter and/or Splinter to play or tour, Jimmy Cliff is scheduled to play Manchester on the 18th but Ginger played ‘Love Supreme’ in Lewes on Saturday it seems and Mavis appears to be on a different continent. When you say BBC2 I wondered if you meant radio instead but that such a line up would play live on BBC Radio 2 seems just as unlikely
Is it possible do you think that you have made a mistake? Misheard a broadcast perhaps?
Tryin to hell but drawn a blank good buddy

  7. help not “hell” obviously!?!!

  8. darth=glen is mistaken again… sigh… there is nothing online about the show he describes. no listings on bbc2 or other bbc channels, no reviews, nothing. mavis performed in london on june 30 at the clapham grand with Ryan Montbleau, but no reviews. jimmy cliff was in austria on july 4.

mavis staples from glastonbury was broadcast by bbc here:

  12. i was emailing back n forth with someone in england who told me he was on his way with his autograph book to go to the event and mentioned to me that it was going to be brdcst. he gave me the info as i gave it to yall. i know nothing more about it. after reading what u have said above.. i wrote to him and asked what the story is since i know nothing about this. he said that peter and ginger were going to be backing up one or the other of those people and i thought that was odd myself. soon as i hear from him i will let u know what i hear. its all info i got from him. i dont know if its radio or tv btw. i assumed it was tv. but we will see soon as i get a response.

  14. well i heard back from him just now and from his response it seems he was pulling my leg. sorry yall. i questioned him about it and he took a strange position about me questioning him and acted like i was calling him a liar. i didnt btw.. i just asked for more info and said that i had shared the info he had given me. he found me on the bklynsteve site in fact and started writing to me several weeks ago so we were communicating. he claimed he was in england. i did an ip check and it said he was in calif but gmail often comes up goofy that way so i let it go and figured that if he wanted to lie about that thats fine. people can be what they wanna be online. who am i to ruin that for them? lol. anyway.. so hes probably not in england and he made up the entire staples cliff green baker thing. well it woulda been nice if there was a green baker jam on anything ever. whoever it was behind. id certainly be interested in that!! again sorry for the heads up.

  21. “what are u doing that shows that u are offering anything of substance here?”

what i am NOT doing is offering stories about concerts that never happened, i dont spew tall tales about all the rock stars i “met”, i dont give links that lead to virus sites, i dont argue incessantly after being proven wrong, i dont make comments just to annoy people then brag about doing so, i dont try to satiate my pathological need for attention by making ridiculous comments that lead to profanity laced tirades, i dont rip off deceased singers’ families only days after their passing by posting links to free downloads of every album they ever released, and i dont get arrested and imprisoned for bootlegging then deny it after being shown proof that it happened and admitting that it happened.

By barth on Jul 7, 2015

  22. sorry to stay off topic, but are there any links to the Fonda theater show? would love to hear that the “cover band” still has some life in it.
