ZZ TOP
Davenport 2015 [no label, 1CD]

Live at the Adler Theater, Davenport, Iowa; April 2, 2015. Fairly good audience recording - a bit distant, vocals a bit buried but guitars remain crunchy.

Whether three or 30-plus years old, the band - whose members are all 65 - stayed true to its original arrangements, still sharp after all the years. They also were loyal to a cover of Jimi Hendrix’ “Foxy Lady,” with a vintage photo of their fellow guitar great on the monitors throughout the song. Although he didn’t say much beyond variations of “Are you having a good time?” all night, Gibbons reminded the crowd that “We’ve been coming around here for you guys for four decades - same three guys, same three chords.” Indeed, with no complaints from the ZZ Top faithful. - qctimes.com

JumpInTheFire noted:

First time trying out my new piece of gear (SONY PCM-M10). I am decently satisfied for how well the internal mics worked considering how close I was, and the fact that the venue didn’t have the greatest acoustics. I’ll just use an external mic next time. Either way, the show was great, but an extremely short (1 hour 15 minutes) performance. I suppose all bands can’t play 3-hour long Metallica shows, eh? On track 12, “My Head’s in Mississippi” at 0:47-0:50, Billy Gibbons says “Or maybe the Quad Cities”, referring to Davenport, which is one of the Quad Cities (Davenport & Bettendorf, Iowa - Rock Island, Moline & East Moline, Illinois).

  2. yyyaaawwwnnnn…. same basic setlist since 1983. The only thing worse than living IN the past, is living OFF the past.

  3. yyyaaawwwnnn…concur. Stale. And the idiotic beards, while perhaps some ridiculous redneck trademark, are hideous in the extreme. There was a time when they did not look so idiotic.

  5. theyre actually 46 yrs old and theyre the only band that can say that they are still in the same lineup thru 6 diff decades. 60s altho only one year of the 60s unless u count 1970 as the last year of the 60s like i do… then its 2 years of the 60s.. then 70s 80s 90s 00s and 10s.. if they manage to keep it going til 2020.. that will make it 7 diff decades.
the only time jimi ever didnt go to a show that he was scheduled to play at… it was to see zz top play.

  6. also meant to add… the band released a live album with 12 tracks this year called cheap sunglasses. i dont know the source of the performances or the dates but its a downloadable recording all over the place. also 2 yrs ago they played montreux and that was released on dvd. it wasnt released on cd but there is an audio counterpart that u can dl if u look around for it. its 17 tracks and very worth having. quality is perfect of course. on the bands official site they had a full concert video that u could watch and i guess u could also dl if u knew how. that was very recent and it was pro shot therefore sbd audio. the info is still there but the video itself was removed. i didnt look for it but perhaps one could find the video on youtube and dl the audio from there if one wanted a fab sounding recent show that wasnt audience.

  15. Hey Darth, ain’t it obvious that considering how many posters worship your presence by copying your name and words, that you definitely fulfill an imaginary presence that they cannot resist succumbing to?
