London 2015 [no label, 2CD]

Live at Bush Hall, London, UK; June 16, 2015. Very good audience recording.

This one’s really for anyone old enough to remember. There was a time in the early ’70s when songs such as It Never Rains In Southern California, The Free Electric Band, The Peacemaker, Down By The River and I’m A Train were practically camping on the airwaves. Albert Hammond wasn’t only a pop singer of the day, like Paul Anka, he was also a notable songwriter, penning hit songs for other acts - The Air That I Breathe (The Hollies); When I Need You (Leo Sayer); To All The Girls I’ve Loved Before (Julio Iglesias and Willie Nelson); Nothing’s Gonna Stop Us Now (Diane Warren) and One Moment In Time (Whitney Houston). Notable omission at this show is If You Gotta Break Another Heart.

And if you are a fan, you’ll enjoy the the stories behind the various songs.

Thanks to Leadville200 who recorded and shared the show at Dime.

  2. o m g… albert hammond co-wrote “gimme dat ding”… he certainly redeemed himself with “the air that i breathe”.

my favorite novelty tunes are more of the dr. demento or early rhino records style. gefilte joe & the fish “take a walk on the kosher side” still rocks da barth house.

yo bigO- Track 104 downloads as 103, it is not “down by the river”.

  7. Lovely; and makes me laugh, too, as I remember an old song by Birkenhead band Half Man Half Biscuit called ‘Albert Hammond Bootleg’ which had this chorus, “And they said: “Beware, there’s an Albert Hammond bootleg in the house in there
An Albert Hammond bootleg in the house
Some man who introduced himself as Stanley Rous came in
And left this Albert Hammond bootleg in the house” And now it’s true! there’s an Albert hammond bootleg in the house.
