Mad Dogs & Englishmen Celebrate Joe Cocker [no label, 2CD]

Live at the Lockn’ Music Festival, Arrington, VA; September 11, 2015. Very good audience recording.

On Friday, September 11, 2015, Lockn’ Festival will present an exclusive performance of Mad Dogs & Englishmen, hosted and curated by Tedeschi Trucks Band and featuring Leon Russell with many original members of the famed tour, as well as additional special guests, to take place at Lockn’ Festival in Arrington, Virginia. In 2013, Lockn’ Festival and Tedeschi Trucks Band began discussions to collaborate with Joe Cocker for a special event. This planned collaboration would have brought together Tedeschi Trucks Band with Joe Cocker and some original members of Mad Dogs & Englishmen and other guest artists.

The idea was well received, but sadly, Joe Cocker died, after a long illness, in December 2014. However, the idea has survived.

In his honor, Tedeschi Trucks Band will host Mad Dogs & Englishmen, a once-in-a-lifetime collaboration, exclusive to the 2015 Lockn’ Festival, to celebrate Joe Cocker. This not-to-be-missed event will feature a lineup that must be seen to be believed.

Original Mad Dogs & Englishmen members include: Leon Russell (guitar and keyboards), Rita Coolidge (vocals), Bobby Jones (vocals), Claudia Lennear (vocals - 20 Feet From Stardom), Chris Stainton (keyboards - Eric Clapton, The Who), Chuck Blackwell (percussion - Everly Brothers), Bobby Torres (percussion), Pamela Polland (vocals - Ry Cooder, Bonnie Raitt), Matthew Moore (vocals) and Daniel Moore (vocals). Linda Wolf, original tour photographer, will also be there!

Special guests include: Chris Robinson (Black Crowes), Dave Mason (Traffic), Doyle Bramhall II, Anders Osborne, Alecia Chakour (Warren Haynes Band), Shannon McNally and more.

  7. Ask and you shall receive! Thanks Big O! This was by far the highlight of the 3 days this year.. (Don’t get me wrong plenty of great sets but Susan’s voice rocked on Little help from my friends..) If you get a hold of any of the sets from Robert Plant or Doobie Incident bring it on..

  8. Thanks, bigo and sluggo. Lockn’ was close to home, but spending boatloads of money to stand for hours in a huge crowd is no longer my idea of a good time. So the video is fantastic, and I love seeing the oldsters alongside the youngsters in the band.

  10. Please release it legit if at all possible. A fitting tribute and closure to Leon and Joe. A fitting tribute to Tedeschi Trucks as well. I wish with all the tributes that no one mentioned Gary Lewis and the Playboys, who Leon not only co-produced but also wrote half of their top 10/40 hits. One of the biggest most high charting bands in history.
