BAD COMPANY
Newcastle 1974 [no label, 1CD]
Live in Newcastle City Hall, Newcastle-upon-Tyne, UK, March 8, 1974. Very good soundboard.
There was a time in the mid-’70s when every house party or even school party one attended played the following acts - Deep Purple (Smoke On The Water), Bread (any of the slow songs), Lobo (any of the slow songs) and Bad Company’s self-titled album. Songs such as Ready For Love, Can’t Get Enough and Rock Steady were not only radio hits, they were songs to groove to on the dancefloor.
Made up of Paul Rodgers and Simon Kirke (both from Free), Mick Ralphs (Mott The Hoople) and Boz Burrell (King Crimson), it was Rodgers’ powerful vocals that stood out, not to mention the album’s catchy tunes powered by a driving beat.
The group is said to have been formed in 1973 and made its formal debut at the Newcastle City Hall in March 1974. If that’s the case, then it’s no surprise that the show was as tight as the performances on the album. If fans attended the show based on Rodgers’ reputation from Free (who can forget All Right Now?), in return they were treated royally by the “new” band - a preview of the group’s debut album, which would only be released in June 1974.
Fortunate are those who were at this historic show. Thanks to Gary, who once shared these tracks among the fans.

I was at this show - amazing to think I was 16 at the time! The big buzz around town was that former Free guitar whiz Paul Kossoff would appear but that never happened. A fine show none the less.

No one knew Bad Co when they opened for Edgar Winter at L.A. Forum in 74, so no buzz there about Kossoff. My manager of record dept recognized their first song All Right Now, told me about Free since I wasnt hip to them, but he was excited as all get out. The crowd came alive with roaring, screaming and jumping, and we knew we were witnesses to history. Bad Co put on a fantastic show, much louder and powerful than this recording. Edgar Winter was good later with Frankenstein as his hot single, but no one was talkin Winter, it was all Bad Co. They were all a hard rock band should be.

Rich Farquahar, send an email (look for contact info) to request it. They usually get back to you to let you know where to go to download it. Once they respond to your email, get it soon because they don’t hold it open for a long time. (I used to be NoJob1yr-its now 3 1/2yrs no job. Just got a turndown on one job, and the prospective employer on another opportunity decided not to show up for a scheduled first interview, and I can’t reach him to talk about it).
