Myra Melford, Mark Dresser and Matt Wilson
Australia 2012 [no label, 1CD]

Live at the 2012 Wangaratta Jazz Festival, Wangaratta Performing Arts Centre, Wangaratta, Victoria, Australia; November 4, 2012. Very good FM broadcast.

The “three M’s” are the improvising collective of pianist Myra Melford, double-bassist Mark Dresser and drummer Matt Wilson - a democratic, leaderless ensemble which effectively erases distinctions between frontline and accompanist.

In March 2015, Myra Melford released Snowy Egret. CounterPunch wrote: “Keyboard virtuoso Myra Melford has done the impossible. She has transcribed the spirit of Eduardo Galeano’s Memories of Fire into a bluesy, intimate, convention-defying dreamscape. Probably the most original recording of the year.” (click here)

  2. Fantastic stuff, and I’ve never even heard of this trio. Matt Wilson I’d heard play just a couple of months before this recording. I love his spirit. Thanks!
