Del Mar 1991 [The Swinging Pig, 1CD]

Live at the Pat O’Brien Pavilion, Del Mar, CA, December 28, 1991. Very good soundboard.

Even if grunge has become yesterday’s news, Nirvana still live on. And for many music fans, Nirvana - before Nevermind turned them into media darlings - were still filled with promise.

This is what The Rawking Refuses To Stop posted on his blog: “This show was recorded only a few months after Nevermind was released, before the melodrama and insanity really kicked-in, and so the band was tight and powerful, focused on the songs. At this point they hadn’t become the band that had to meet the unrealistic expectations of the audience everytime they took the stage. Yes, here they’re just a rock band, and writing that reminds me of how sad this story turned out.”

But let it never be said that Nirvana did not help to bridge the generations. This show was requested as a birthday gift by a parent whose daughter was at the Del Mar gig - Kurt even spit on her and she saved the shirt!

And thanks to the person who shared this on the internet back in 2006.
