Boston 1976 [Dan Lampinski Recording, 2CD]

Live at the Boston Music Hall, Boston, MA, January 30, 1976. Very good audience recording.

Wayne’s World (yes, that really dates us) were dead on (or is that party on? or truly excellent?) when they sang along to Bohemian Rhapsody as, according to a recent poll, it is the No. 2 most popular karaoke song in Britain, beaten only by Abba’s Dancing Queen.

Released in November 1975, Queen’s Bohemian Rhapsody was undoubtedly the hit song from A Night At The Opera and here they were, fresh with the album and live in Boston, dishing out Opera goodies and more. And for those still in the party mood, you can sing along to Bohemian Rhapsody not once but three times!

Thanks to djscomics for sharing the lossless tracks on the Dime site. Above all, thanks to Dan Lampinski, Carl Morstadt (who mastered the tracks), Kev and the rest of the Lampinski crew. Also thanks to ethiessen1 for the artwork.

A note on Dan Lampinski: Dan recorded over 100 concerts in the Providence/Boston area, mostly between 1974 and 1978. Since Dan never traded copies of his recordings, they are all essentially uncirculated. Some copies were made for friends, but these releases are the first time most of these recordings have ever seen the light of day, and are direct from his master cassettes. No EQ’ing has been done to any of the transfers.

Note: Click on the highlighted tracks to download the MP3s (these are high quality MP3s - sample rate of 192 kbps). As far as we can ascertain, these tracks have never been officially released on CD.

  2. Brilliant recording! What a fantastic time in live rock n roll - Dan recorded a treasure trove of material, most of which he kept under wraps or most vinyl or cd bootleggers would’ve been made a mint from these gems… Highest honors to Dan wherever you are!

  11. Hey, Big-O, why not do a whole week of Dan Lampinski’s recordings? This one is awesome. I also saw the NY shows. What a memory! If my muddied mind remembers correctly, the show started with Freddie appearing as a silouhette behind a white screen as Rhapsody began.
