Albany 2017 [no label, 2CD]

Meeting Of The Spirits Tour (John’s Farewell Tour). Live at The Egg, Albany, New York; November 2, 2017.

Thanks to geo981010 for sharing the show at Dime.

geo981010 noted:

Last night’s show from John, with the John + 4th Dimension set immediately running into a second set with Jimmy Herring and the Invisible Whip joining them on stage for a Mahavishnu Orchestra set. This is officially being billed as John’s Farewell tour, so get out there and tape because he will not be touring again. Beautiful show by two fantastic groups, and though saying goodbye is hard at least he went out on top with a gift to the fans by bringing back a slew of Mahavishnu songs. Thank you John.

Recording came out well, and the Egg sounded pristine as always. Crowd was definitely into it but no one too close was too crazy, so definitely worth a listen. Best one from this tour on Dime yet guaranteed.

Thanks to JSWetch and bananas for the song titles, and the correction on the encore.

senormogul9, Dime:

Let it also be noted that John is NOT retiring from playing and/or recording. He’s simply retiring from touring, and this WILL be his last US tour. According to interviews that i’ve read, he’ll still do occasional shows here and there, but he’s dealing with arthritis in his hands, so long tours will no longer be practical for him. Let’s hope he has a string of good records in him still, despite the lack of touring. Go see him while you can! The revisit of Mahavishnu material alone should be extraordinary!
