JIMI HENDRIX
The Ross Tapes #6, 7 [no label, 2CD]

Various dates and venues. Very good soundboard.

Thanks to hey man for sharing the tracks at The Traders’ Den.

hey man noted:

I received this in a trade about eight years ago, text file from the original seeder. Special thanks to amellowsoul.

Original notes:

Ross was known for low gen newly circulated genuine Jimi studio jams and concerts. The songs on most of his stuff are at the right speed, it sure sounds clean, neat n complete. These pre-date DAT tape too. Anyway, Ross made a final offer one summer by providing an 11-tape series of all his studio stuff. My friend took #2, 3, 6, & 7. Shortly after buying these tapes Ross generally dissappeared from the scene. These torrents are right off the raw cassettes, no altering at all.”

Ross Tapes #7:

Bongo Funk 1
This is a fake Hendrix recording. Even though this track obviously does not include Hendrix’s participation, it may still be a vintage @1970 recording by some band he was associated with. One collector speculated that this could be a Buddy Miles Express outtake, while another collector received a copy of this track directly from Hendrix archivist John McDermott, which further adds to its mystery. The actual musicians involved are unknown; the uninspired playing styles of the instruments (guitar, bass, drums, congas) are far from the styles of Hendrix and his fellow musicians. Two voices can be heard very briefly at the end of the track, the first one commenting “groovy thing, groovy thing”, and the other exclaiming “wow”.
A copy of this also appears on Bob Terry Tape #5: Angel - Drifting labeled Backing Track 1.

The Weight (instrumental)
This is a fake Hendrix recording. Even though this track obviously does not include Hendrix’s participation, it may still be a vintage @1970 recording by some band he was associated with. One collector speculated that this could be a Buddy Miles Express outtake, while another collector received a copy of this track directly from Hendrix archivist John McDermott, which further adds to its mystery. The actual musicians involved are unknown; the uninspired playing styles of the instruments (guitar, bass, drums) are far from the styles of Hendrix and his fellow musicians. This track follows Bongo Funk 1 on both sources. The copy on Bob Terry Tape #5: Angel - Drifting is labeled Backing Track 2.

Untitled Instrumental (Bongo Funk 2)
This is a fake Hendrix recording. Even though this track obviously does not include Hendrix’s participation, it may still be a vintage @1970 recording by some band he was associated with. One collector speculated that this could be a Buddy Miles Express outtake, while another collector received a copy of this track directly from Hendrix archivist John McDermott, which further adds to its mystery. The actual musicians involved are unknown; the uninspired playing styles of the instruments (guitar, bass, drums, congas, tambourine) are far from the styles of Hendrix and his fellow musicians. This track only appears on The Ross Tapes.

  2. great way to end an old year ..and speaking of that, let`s try something really unique in the new year. Let`s try and have respect for each other , less confrontation, less profanity, lets really try to respect the fact that others might enjoy something different musically than you or I.How can we expect entire countries to get along when a handful of people don`t try to get along?
    peace…happy new year.

  3. I couldn’t agree more. At least the “groupies” seem to have disappeared (were they blocked?). Hopefully everyone will take notice of this as well. Peace indeed.

  10. I completely agree. I have asked the webMASTERS a couple of times to ditch the folks who continue to badger and be icky. It’s a bootleg music site, not a street conversation about sex.
Glad we all have this great forum to share with one another. Love this site!!!
Happy New Year, from Santiago, Chile!!!
