One year after his passing, the BBC ran a radio documentary that touched all bases, from his time with Pink Floyd to his dark days in Cambridge and the reaction to his death.

‘The Thing About Syd’ [no label, 1CD]

BBC Radio 2 FM Broadcast July 21, 2007.

All the members of Pink Floyd [except Roger Waters] including manager Peter Jenner and Barrett’s sister, Rosemary Breen contributed to this excellent radio documentary. A great way for younger readers to get an overview of early Pink Floyd and their much admired first leader, Syd Barrett.

  4. Interesting and sad. The Youtube clip of Syd’s house after he died is worth a look.

I’m not sure if Roger Waters is absent because of his attitude towards Syd or simply because of his still strained (this was made before Live 8) relationship with the other Floyds.

The BBC ran an excellent bio about Vivian Stanshall that reminded me of this. Both brilliant; both unhappy.

    Thanks for posting this.

  6. I missed the BBC rebroadcast last month — am glad to be able to listen to it here. Syd was light years ahead of his time. Thanks for making this available, and for keeping his legacy alive.
