NORAH JONES
Paris 2010 [no label, 1CD]

Live at Espace Pierre Cardin, Paris, France, February 10, 2010. Very good FM broadcast.

Norah Jones is one artiste who seems to have the midas touch. All her albums not only sold well but are well regarded by both critics and fans. Her second album, Feels Like Home in 2004, was the highest-selling album in the history of Blue Note Records and her mix of lite jazz and country/folk/soul is easy on the ears.

But Jones, whose father is famed sitar player Ravi Shankar, does not stand still, not even when she breaks off with her boyfriend of eight years. And for her latest album, The Fall, which was released in November 2009, she even wrote or co-wrote the tracks, which also probably made it Jones’s most personal record to date.

On Even Though, she sings of the pain of separation: “He makes me think that I don’t know me/So unsure when I remember all the things he showed me/and I want more, I’m feeling lonely…”; on Back To Manhattan, the need to break free: “I should go back to Manhattan/It’s just a train ride away/I know nothing ’bout leaving/But I know I should do it today”; and the stoicism in being alone in Stuck: “I’ll go home alone, a sinking stone/A switched off telephone/I’ll go on, be free, a frozen breeze/A fallen down factory…”

For this Paris show, Jones performs almost all the tracks from her new album and closes the show with the hit single from her debut album, Don’t Know Why.

Thanks to Kurddt who taped the show and to bomba who shared the lossless tracks on the internet.

  2. I hate to be a complainer, but the friggin’ French DJ who talks after EACH song is a bit of a buzzkill.

  6. Thanks for the post. Great gig by the sounds of things. There seems to be a problem with tracks 7 and 13 though: the hyperlink is shown as the respective mp3 file, but any attempt to save or follow the link leads to dnserror.htm.
