MUSE
Hong Kong 2010 [no label, 2CD]

Live at the AsiaWorld Expo Arena, Hong Kong, February 6, 2010. Very good audience recording.

Muse, the British indie rock trio, are known for their energetic and extravagant live performances and their fusion of many music genres, including progressive rock, classical music, heavy metal and electronica.

In other words, one hears a bit of everything in the Muse repertoire - from Queen, prog rock, metal, with Matthew Bellamy’s falsetto recalling other rock vocalists such as Robert Plant, Roger Daltry and Freddie Mercury. And for those who like the U2 sound (post-Zooropa) but cannot bear either’s U2’s bombast or Bono’s high and mighty attitude, Muse can be an ideal substitute. (Maybe touring with U2 has rubbed something off on Muse.)

Think of this as a cross between Yes and U2 and you might not be too far off. Long-time prog rock fans who wonder if there’s anyone else who will carry the prog-rock torch might be delighted with this.

Thanks to skyscaper for recording and sharing the tracks on the Dime site.

  6. Brilliant. Saw them around this time in the US, and saw them again just the other day in 13′. They’re a brilliant live band who combines the best of Queen Bombast, Floyd Stage Show (lazors ftw!), Radioheads vocal range and sociopolitical seriousness (at times) and more. If you’re not a fan, go see them live, and you soon will be.
