London 1980 [no label, 2CD]

Live at the Wembley Arena, London, UK, August 2, 1980. Last night of the UK Tour. Very good soundboard.

Those who enjoyed the King Biscuit Flower Hour broadcast of this show, shared by Philip Cohen, will certainly want to listen to the complete concert. This came from a third generation cassette source of the soundboard.

Thanks to surfling who shared the lossless tracks on the Dime site.

This is what surfling noted: “All thanks go to Wilky_Way for sharing this excellent tape in the first place and to JEMS for the new transfer and his beautiful remastering job!”

JEMS remaster notes:
As a Roxy fan of both their early and later days, Wilky_Way’s post of this heretofore uncirculated soundboard from the last night of the Flesh & Blood tour was a real treat. The recording sounded very good as is, but there was something about the sound that led me to wonder if azimuth-adujusted playback on my Nak might yield more from the original cassette. I wrote Wilky_Way who was kind enough to send me his source tape (a TDK AD-90). I did a fresh transfer and there’s a marked improvement in the high-end, imaging and overall punch. I did a tiny bit of work with the finalizer to raise levels and apply just a touch of mastering.

Once again, a round of thanks to everyone whose effort is very much appreciated here.

  2. Thanks again, to everyone, for this complete show. I guess that King Biscuit Flower Hour wasn’t comfortable with “Love Is The Drug”.

  3. Thanx for this gritty show, Roxy Music was a true genre-stumper. And to NamooseDog, Maybe they were just tired of “Love Is The Drug”, as it was played way too much, back then…

  7. Thanks a ton - I had a copy of an audience tape of this show and was thinking earlier this month, as I’m discarding old CDs, of splicing the KBFH tracks into them, but decided it wouldn’t have been worth the effort. This is a far, far more elegant solution. And what a show! Roxy’s last great tour of the eighties, just before the nose powder got too much for Ferry to give a darn onstage!

  8. Thank you very much for posting this show. The Flesh+Blood tour stuff is very hard to find, even though it’s great!

  10. Just in case anyone is interested in “repairing” these tracks: They are running 2.8% too fast (about half a semitone) …
