Denmark 1977 [no label, 1CD]

Live in Denmark, January 1977. No other details on actual date, venue and city. Very good soundboard?

There are fans who feel that Eric Burdon’s defining moments were with The Animals in the ’60s; then there are those who think the War period (1969-1971) should not be overlooked.

Even though he was still releasing albums throughout the ’70s, in the mid and late ’70s, Burdon had a quiet spell and some critics even considered the late ’70s to be Burdon’s lost period. So it is interesting to find this “rare” show being shared on the internet. According to internet reports, this is the same band that played at the 1976 Rockpalast show. (But they were not part of the group that recorded Burdon’s Survivor album in 1977.)

It is also interesting to note that in 1977, Santa Esmeralda covered Don’t Let Me Be Misunderstood (an Animals hit in 1965, though Nina Simone recorded it in 1964) - it was such a huge hit that youngsters at that time thought the song was a brand new song by the disco group. Live, Burdon still had the voice - his Misunderstood is mesmerising, Boom Boom cannot be faulted and no one can take House Of The Rising Sun away from him.

Thanks to martinlan for sharing the lossless tracks on the Dime site.

  4. not bad for a “lost period”. “Don’t Let Me Be Misunderstood” is great, one of the best versions I heard of this song.
