GEORGE HARRISON
The Making Of All Things Must Pass [ReproMan, 3CD]

Outtakes.

And for those who would like the whole works…

These CDs might have started life as a Midnight Beat boxset in 1997 but ReproMan has added the Ringo Starr outtakes (which were also released by Midnight Beat as an apple-shaped CD single) to make it their own.

“A master quality collection of outtakes and in-progress versions from the making of George Harrison’s three-LP set All Things Must Pass comes from Vigotone’s ReproMan subsidiary. This three-CD set also adds a few Ringo Starr outtakes at the end.” - Philip Cohen

This is what Cave In commented at Bootlegzone: “With the sheer quality, majesty and quantity of music on this package, it is a wonder why George didn’t offer a 30th anniversary box set edition of his best album like Brian Wilson did when he issued the Pet Sound sessions box.

“George mentioned in the ATMP liner notes (2000 edition) that he resisted temptation to reduce the Phil Spector production from 1970. He could have done so, issued the album as it was, and offered these tantalizing performances as bonuses, and would have set a high benchmark for further major re-issues in the process. The multiple takes of Apple Scruff is equally enjoyable.

“If you could get your hands on this one, get it. Worth the admission price alone to hear the What is Life tracks.”

Thanks to Phil for sharing the lossless tracks.

Note: A longtime music fan, Philip Cohen was a contributor to the now-defunct ICE Magazine and compiled the boxsets for The Yardbirds, The Small Faces, Humble Pie and Nice.

  6. Awesome stuff. Is “Momma You Been On My Mind” actually on this? The track is actually another take on Apple Scruffs.

By Andrew on Apr 20, 2010

  7. Hello Andrew. Yes, the track is another take of Apple Scruffs. It was probably wrongly titled and Momma You Been On My Mind is not available on this set.

  8. Sorry to disagree, but, with the exception of being a completist, the versions contained here and on the two other GH boots on BigO don’t really add anything to the already terrific ATMP listening experience for me. GH was not an improvisor like Hendrix or an organic songwriter like Lennon. These just sound incomplete to me. For all who disagree, please enjoy.

  9. Most excellent. Thank you Big O!

  10. I don’t know if I am a “completist” or not but I love the Harrison stuff you have given us. Far from being “the quiet Beatle” George had a lot to say, and I love hearing as much as I can get my hands on…hey…maybe that makes me…a completist!

Thanks Big O! (again and again and again!)

  11. thanks love it all by the way jimi’s improvising is abit over rated in my view that latest release left me cold guess it’s just a matter of taste

  12. Very nice to have all these outtakes from George’s masterpiece.

  13. I appreciate these recordings and the way they were presented, one set after the other. Although George’s solo work seemed more accessible - or more commercial in some ways - it’s content manytimes incorporated instruments and religious philosophy that was very foreign to most western ears. So in that way George was content to be unique. And here he was creating his own vision of what his album should be.

  14. Maravilloso!!!

Todas estas pistas demuestran la calidad de Harrison. Considero que asi debio haberse escuchado “All things must pass” tal cual, es decir, sin el efecto tan “caracteristico” de Spector.

    Gracias por este material!
