Roskilde 2009 [no label, 1CD]

Live at the Arena, Roskilde Festival, Denmark, July 4, 2009. Very good FM broadcast.

With her flashy shows, Lady Gaga may be the pop star of the day but years down the road, will the Fame One be fondly remembered or will pop fans recall the Glam Queen with a shudder, like one of those skeletons which have to be quickly hidden in the closet?

Not quite as flashy but still controversial nonetheless (anyone who puts out a single called Fuck You can’t claim ignorance, can she?), Lily Allen comes across as an experienced young woman (she’s only 25) whose expletives-laden songs seem equally in part in-your-face and in part an attempt to assert herself.

With Womanizer - which comes across like a response to any number of “whore” songs, she appears wiser than her years; and one wonders how Morrissey would interpret a pretty pop tune such as Littlest Things. And when she pulls out that ska thing, it becomes an engaging communal party.

So that makes it all the more disappointing to hear that Allen may stop making records - she said that she saw no way that she could ever make a profit making new records. Or at least she’s taking a two-year break to open a fashion rental shop and launch a record label. As she said, “I’m still writing… I’m not writing for myself.”

So here’s a little set to tide things over… as well as to encourage pop fans to give Allen’s two albums a listen (if they haven’t already). Thanks to Stefan_M for sharing the lossless tracks on the Dime site.

Needless to say, those who are sensitive to strong language may want to skip this show.

  3. Hey Unifaun.
What´s your problem? You don´t like it? That´s okay with me but why do you have to tell? Why can´t you just go somewhere else in the net, why do have to put comments like this?
    good grief!

  4. I like her stuff and this is a pretty good recording albeit a little on the short side. I wouldn’t mind hearing another show in the future. Thanks for the post.
