Don Cherry, Collin Walcott, and Nana Vasconcelos
New York 1982 [no label, 1CD]

1982 Kool Jazz Festival. Live at the Avery Fisher Hall, New York, NY; June 26, 1982. Very good NPR “Jazz Alive!” broadcast.

Thanks to carville for sharing the show at Dime.

”Jazz and World Music,” presented by the Kool Jazz Festival at Avery Fisher Hall on Sunday night, was a four-hour argument for a provocative thesis. Joachim Berendt, the German jazz writer and producer of records and concerts, put the program together to support his contention that the fusion of jazz with ethnic, folk and tribal music from around the world has been one of the most significant developments in the last two decades of jazz history - a development as potentially revolutionary as the coming of free jazz in the early 1960s.

Don Cherry is Berendt’s idea of the new global musician, a player with impeccable jazz credentials, who has traveled widely, learned to play instruments indigenous to Africa, Asia and other areas, and has forged a new style out of his jazz training and the ethnic influences he has encountered firsthand. And Cherry, playing his Pakistani pocket trumpet, an end-blown flute, a harp-lute from Mali and various percussion instruments, made the evening’s best case for global jazz in his performance with the group Codona. Before the guest saxophonist Jim Pepper appeared for a diffuse performance of his American Indian-derived warhorse, ”Witchi-Tai-To,” the basic Codona trio - Cherry, Collin Walcott, and Nana Vasconcelos - turned in a sparkling set that offered intelligent and frequently gutsy fusion music and avoided the one-world homilies glibly spouted by some of the other participants. - nytimes.com

  9. I shit my Depends a lot:
‘Trump Often Soiled His Pants on The Apprentice Show, Wore Diapers’, Claims Comedian Noel Casler”

“Sharing a video of Trump, Casler tweeted, “re: Trump not cleaning himself when changing out Depends, it is because he wears a hard plastic girdle and he doesn’t have the freedom of movement. Its why you see him turn his body from the waist so strangely when standing.””

“Casler, who worked on Trump’s show, The Celebrity Apprentice, for nearly six years, said that the US President would often soil himself on set.”

“Casler said that Trump has been wearing ‘diapers since probably the 90s’. Adding that they often had to stop the show in order for Trump to change his diaper, Casler said that Keith Schiller’s job was to take Trump offset and wipe him down. “Our nickname for Keith was wet wipes. It’s not a joke. It’s happened several times,” the comedian.”

“Revealing that Ivanka Trump was also aware of her father’s issue of soiling the pants, Casler added that Trump does it and he almost sits there unaware of it, and one time he saw Ivanka have to kind of go whisper in his ear and then Keith came and took him offstage.”
