When the rock historians get down to painting a true picture of who invented Rock and Roll, JOHNNY OTIS will undoubtedly be one of the key figures in the musical revolution on the west coast of America in the ’40s and ’50s. He was responsible for discovering and employing some of the great rhythm and blues singers and instrumentalists as well as writing some of the classic songs of that era. His own hits include numbers like “Harlem Nocturne”, “Cry Baby Cry” “Ma He’s Making Eyes At Me” and “Willie and The Hand Jive”.

On his recent tour of Britain, we recorded JOHNNY OTIS and company IN CONCERT and, as the program proves, all the showy, exuberant happy sound of “Rock and Roll” is as exciting and enjoyable today as it ever had been.

Johnny, for many people the “daddy” of the “Rock and Blues” sound, announces, bangs the tambourine, plays piano and vibes, sings and generally holds together the fastest moving show we’ve featured in this series to date.

After “Honkey Tonk” - the Otis signature tune - comes opening act BIG DADDY RUCKER who pounds his way through “Knock on Wood”, “Best Friend Blues”, “Lawdy Miss Clawdy” and “Turn On Your Lovelight”. Big Daddy is followed by the THREE TONS OF JOY, Marie Adams, Sandy McKinley and Pretty One, who blow up a storm on “Dust My Broom”, “Let It Roll”, “Shake Your Hand” and “Going To Chicago”.

GENE CONNERS, better known as “The Mighty Flea”, then features his specialty number on trombone, “The Preacher’s Blues” and from there it’s into some really nice, loose, swinging bandwork as Johnny takes his vocal spot with the classics “Willie and The Hand Jive” and “Cry Baby”. Keeping it in the family Johnny introduces his 18-year-old son SHUGGIE for his rendition of “Me and My Woman”.

Stoney, Peaches and Honey otherwise known as the OTISETTES explode on stage as the last of the individual acts to feature “I Wanna Take You Higher”, “Bye Bye Boogie” and “Shake”. From there everyone is on stage for the grand finale and it all happens on the well known “Boogie Boogie Bye Bye”.

Musicians in the show also include BIG JIM WINN (baritone sax), CLIFFORD SOLOMAN (tenor sax), WILLIE “JITTER-BUG” WEBB (guitar), JIMMY SMITH JUNIOR (Bass), and THOMAS NOLES NARWOOD (drums).

There is nothing profound about THE JOHNNY OTIS SHOW, but it’s full of the old swing, spirit and entertainment which is often lacking in show business today. Our audience loved it, you will too!. - copied from the BBC cue sheet

  22. Derrick, great to hear from you man. Same here I stopped commenting also. I watched the Mannings last nite was pretty funny. Also, did you hear Stephen A Smith got Max Kellerman fired from the morning show. ESPN really sucks now.

By DD on Sep 15, 2021

  23. All that said Brian , the dic suckin name hijacker was dead on as far as the coon football league is concerned. Nuthin but a bunch of coon monkeys and hi Yellers a ctin like baboons. I can’t watch a game complete anymore. Too much coon in your face bullshit . Every fuckin game I turned on , 90 percent coons and Oreos / hi yellers . Quarterbacks used to be mostly white , now the coons is takin that over too . Whites is mainly tight ends , offensive linemen and kickers , that’s it .

By Derrick on Sep 15, 2021

  24. Now they got that coon anthem playin before games now . It’s gone totally woke . That’s the way they rub the white mans noses it it .

By Derrick on Sep 15, 2021

  25. Glad to hear from you DD , saw clips of the mannings , Peyton Manning is really funny dude , he should be broadcasting games . I heard they tried to get him for the NBC lead analyst gig , but he sad no . They hired Tony Romo instead . Romo is good too

By Derrick on Sep 15, 2021

  26. What’s wit Steven A Smith ? I liked Kellerman. Smith has a big ego . His partner used to be Skip Bayless who left espn for Fox . He hosts undisputed wit Shannon Sharpe

By Derrick on Sep 15, 2021

  27. DD , check out Jason Whitlock, he used to co host speak for yourself wit Marcellus Wiley , they let him go cause he was too controversial. He didn’t tow the woke line , criticizes Lebron James , the black anthem , kneeling during the anthem etc . He’s a conservative black commentator. The sports networks want you to drink the woke kool Aid . Whitlock has a podcast where he can let loose and tell it like it is . He calls George Floyd a fuckin thug and blasts the far left . He has political talks too . His podcasts are on YouTube. Worth checking out

By Derrick on Sep 15, 2021

  28. Much rather listen to Jason Whitlock than Steven A Smith . Espn has gone woke big time . Other networks is almost as bad
